Natural Birth

Suggestions on books!

Hey everyone! This is only my second post on this board but I just wanna get some suggestions on any books you all read during your pregnancy that really helped you get through your natural birth. I read Ina May's Guide to Childbirth and love all of the stories but I am looking more for techniques and more ways to stay relaxed and focused.

Also might be TMI but any ideas on how to avoid an episiotomy at all costs would be great! I am thinking more towards warm compresses but have also heard of Ina May using oil right when crowning was happening.

Thank you!

  • Ina May has other good books as well.

Also, Birthing from Within had some good things to pull out. If you have a library, consider looking at the books they have on pregnancy. I was able to get the Hypnobirthing book and Bradley from our local library to look through.

  • I agree with first poster.

Birthing From Within is overall a little too artsy for me, but I dog-eared the pages that I found really useful and/or motivational to me.  There are A LOT of dog-eared pages, so definitely worth it.

  • I really liked Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way.  Even if you don't choose to do the Bradley Method, there's a lot of good information about exercises, visualizations, birthing positions, etc.
