That was my grandfather's name! I really wanted to name my daughter Emmanuelle until I found out that it was a metonymy for soft core 'sexy-time' movies
I don't think that Emmanuel would make people think of that though because it doesn't have the 'Elle' ending in it's masculine form.

My only reservation about it would be the series of "sexy time" movies from the 70s/80s with the same name.
ETA: The movies were spelled Emanuelle, so may have another pronunciation. Are you saying it like the actor from Webster?

I would think it was pretty odd.
Its a pretty big name considering it means "God with us", and was used for a name for Jesus Christ.
