weight loss too fast while breastfeeding?

hi all...I gave birth to LO on 7/20 and have been breastfeeding...I find that I am losing about a pound or more a day right now and I'm not sure if it is healthy for me & baby while breastfeeding....I am already down 20 lbs from when I gave birth...only 8 lbs from my pre-pregnancy weight and it's only been a little over a week...of course this is great for my body image...but I worry about feeding baby...I haven't had any problems nursing LO yet....and I have been eating pretty healthily and frequently throughout the day...I even have protein bars in LO's nursery at night to eat while nursing when I get hungry.... Anyone experiencing the same thing?? I have a Dr appt for LO Tuesday and plan on asking her..but just wanted some input from all you moms out there! Thanks!

  • I should also mention that I'm not trying to lose weight...I feel like a lot of what I've lost is water weight...

  • Just lurking, since I don't have another newborn yet, but I wouldn't be concerned. Most of that weight was baby/uterus/placenta/fluid. Just be sure not to cut back on eating or anything these first few weeks so your body can establish milk supply and keep up with your baby. GL.

  • Don't stress. As long as you're not limiting your calories, you should be fine.

  • You lose a lot of fluid and blood postpartum. Just keep eating about 2000 to 2200 calories a day.

  • Most of that was fluid weight. I wouldn't be too concerned. I dropped 15 lb the first week.

  • Yeah I lost a lot in the first 2-3 weeks. It's definitely leveled off. I have actually gained back 2 lbs :(

  • I am six weeks postpartum and lost 36 pounds in the first four or five weeks and am now down 24 pounds below my pre-pregnancy weight. The weight loss seems to be leveling off, and there have been no issues with my milk supply. I am very overweight though so I have plenty in reserve, haha.
  • I lost 40 in the first 2 wks. Mostly water and baby stuff. Now I feel like I've stalled but I've been waiting till the 6wk mark to change and exercise. Plus there were other major issues to deal with.
  • Don't stress, I dropped all but 6 lbs within 5 days of giving birth, it is fine. I have had no issues breastfeeding and actually have oversupply. If you aren't doing anything to lose the weight, it is what your body wants so enjoy it!
  • I lost 20 pounds in 4 days after giving birth. I think a lot of it was water weight because I was really really swollen.
