Hi! I'm Melanie--new to The Bump and newly married (Sept 2011). My husband and I recently learned that I'm not ovulating and he's not producing sperm. We're meeting with a specialist in ten days, but we're also investigating adoption. We live in Kentucky and wondered if anyone had experience with the adoption process. We would love to adopt from Kentucky or Ohio. Any information or personal experience would be welcomed. Thanks!
Hi Melanie! I am in Nky and I have quite a few friends who have adopted and/or fostered. It seems like you are really early in the process but do you have any idea if you would be looking to do a domestic or international adoption? I have friends who have done both and a few that are really involved in the adoption resources in the area. I can ask them some suggestions for what would be a good first step. I hope your appt goes well with the specialist!
Hi! Thank you for your reply. We are looking at a domestic adoption. We're investigating a SNAP adoption, but we would really love to adopt an infant. Any information you and your friends could provide would be wonderful. There's a lot of information out there, but it's also overwhelming trying to find a starting point.
Our family has a lot of adoption experience. I have two nieces and a nephew, all of whom were adopted through Adoption Link (www.adoptionlink.org) in Ohio. The girls were adopted as newborns and the boy was adopted at 11months. It appears they are only licensed in Ohio, but they may be able to offer some suggestions of agencies that work with Kentucky families.
My SIL and my husband's cousin have both adopted infants from Hamilton County Child and Family services as well.
