My husband and I have disagreed on every name so far. On a positive note, we do have some middle names picked out (family). However, he is dead set on naming our child after something related to fishing. He actually suggested "Traverse" as a name the other day (a boat motor brand!) So, it got me thinking, maybe there is a way to compromise here...have a "normal" name but associated with my husband's and I love of fishing. So for a boy I was thinking Jonah (like Jonah and the whale in the Bible) and for a girl Marina (like a boat marina). Is that way to weird? This is our first kiddo and don't have any siblings it has to work with.
Re: Fishing related names...
I think those are nice options (much better than Traverse! hahaha). I prefer Marin over Marina, but Marina works. Jonah is getting more common, so it's definately not too weird!
That being said, there are lots of names out there that have "sea" meanings. Would that be enough for your DH. Here is a link to sea related names
https://www.thinkbabynames.com/search/0/sea
ETA: For example- Maris means "of the sea". And Dylan is a name on our list and it means "Son of the Sea"
I think that Jonah and Marina are excellent choices ? I commend your willingness to take a slightly ridiculous preference and find a way to make it work.
Other possibilities:
Peter (patron saint of fishermen)
Mina (means "fish" in Sanskrit)
Mira ("ocean" in Sanskrit)
Dylan ("great tide" in Welsh)
Meredith ("sea lord" in Welsh)
Kai ("sea" in Hawaiian)
Calypso (Greek sea nymph w/ dolphin symbol, also a brand of fishing rod)
River

I like both Jonah and Marina. I really like Marina
My best friend's name is Evinrude after the boat but don't tell your hubs that just mention Evan like the boat and leave it at that.

Me and my husband finally did a top ten list of our combined favorites, ranked them separately and then kicked off the loosing names from each person until we finally ended with Dalton since it's where we first met
I know a boy named Bass. Please don't!
I also know a little boy named Laken, but goes by Lake. He's a cutie and I love his name. Well, come to think of it, I know a girl named Laken as well. Never thought about it until now. Ha!
