When I was 13 I totally wanted to name my daughters Destiny (spelled correctly of course) and Justice (Poetic Justice was one of my favorite movies because I had a crush on Tupac). Thank goodness I grew up and realized I wasn't part of a Janet Jackson/Tupac movie before I had children.

Although in her culture it is perfectly acceptable to keep her maiden name upon getting married, a friend of mine wants to take her fiance's name but doesn't like it (it is Ho). She jokes she would name her daughter Heidi Ho.
I played volleyball with Destinee for years. Believe me when I say that the only time you notice her name is the first time you see/hear it. After that, her awesome athleticism and personality completely overshadow any hang up you may have about her name.
DH and I are Americans living an adventure in Kenya since 2011

I watched their game last night, no question that she's a fantastic volleyball player. But we were going to turn it into a drinking game, how many times were the commentators going to use her full name (obviously for the sake of saying it!!). In less than 5 minutes, it was 18 times. They were not using the full names of the other players all the time. And it was good that we didn't have any liquor in the house, or we would have been drunk.

Well said. DH's cousin was her college coach. We've been rooting for Destinee for years.

Re: Destinee Hooker
Ha Ha..... awe.
As long as her parents love it, that's all that matters!!!1!!1!
Oh wait...
I just got on here to post the same thing, lageorgiapaperie! She must have been the result of a teen pregnancy with a name like that.
Did she get married?

Those were my exact words to my DH.
