Question about embryo quality

The RE called me this morning (today we are transferring) and she said that we have 4 embryos. 1 is excellent, 2 are good, and 1 is fair. My question is: has anyone here chosen to freeze a fair quality embryo? I would like to transfer the two best ones today and freeze the other two, but I remember the RE saying that lesser quality embryos won't survive the freeze...... I kinda want to try freezing the extra two any way. What do you think?

    All blasts?

ETA:  Our clinic grades 1-5.  Tst I believe had a 4AC that didnt' survive thaw and a 3AA that did and stuck.  If it were me, I'd still transfer the best two and freeze the others (including the fair), knowing that it might not survive thaw.

    Good luck!

Our RE automatically froze all viable embryos. We were sort of given a choice of transferring one or two but our clinic strongly supports single transfers, which is what we did.  We have 7 right now (the best one obviously became DS) and this is the breakdown without grading:

2 - 5 day embryos of great quality, one hatching
2 - 6 day embryos of fair quality
    3 - 7 day embryos, 2 good quality and 1 fair quality

We are just starting to cycle for FET #1, but our RE never implied that the 3 fair ones weren't worth counting.

    Good luck!

I would freeze it as well. I don't see any harm in doing so and at my clinic at least, it wouldn't be an extra cost. Does your clinic do vitrification or traditional freezing? Vitrification has a very high success rate for freezing/thawing.

Fwiw, embryo grading varies from clinic to clinic and is my understanding that it's fairly subjective. DD is the result of a less than perfect blast.

2 IVFs & 1 FET. Welcome home baby girl!

My clinic only freezes day 5/6 grade 1/2 expanded blasts.  Blast below that grade are not frozen.
