NBR: Vent about DH

We are moving this week & I have been nagging him to call to get the gas turned on for over 2 weeks.....  Well, he didn't bother to make the call (meanwhile I did EVERYTHING ELSE!) but kept saying he wanted to do it because he wanted it in HIS name (otherwise the other utilities are all in my name.)  Fine. I get it.

Well I just called and they said they will call me on Monday or Tuesday to set up an appointment to turn the gas on.  We are moving in on Tuedsay.... how the heck am I gonna clean, shower or even wash dishes with no gas (NO HOT WATER!!!)  I'm so furious with him right now!!

And his answer is going to be "Well I worked all week..... "  GRRRRR!!!!

Re: NBR: Vent about DH

  • This happened to me once (not DH forgetting to call - it was actually me who didn't call :-/ ) but i just wanted to let you know that once I called they were out to turn it on the following day! It doesn't take them long to do, so *hopefully* even  though they want to call you on Monday or Tuesday, they may be able to come out on that same day.  Thinking positive thoughts for ya!

  • We called & informed them that DS has very bad food allergies and has to have meals specially prepared.  They said if we come Monday morning w/medical documentation that proves this, they will turn it on right then and there for us.

I told DH that we are doing this if he likes it or not.  He said he feels like he is taking advantage... I said it's not taking advantage when it's the truth!  So cross your fingers that they turn it on for us asap!!!

  • Just in case they can't get out over the weekend...

You can pick up a little camping/backpacking stove set. Boil water & you are set. Do you have an electric or gas stove? Plug in a microwave & heat your water. I know it sucks but for a day or two you can make it work. Be creative & patient.

I understand it's frustrating, but instead of stressing, brainstorm!

  • I was going to suggest the microwave too. It sucks for a day or two, but it would work. Also check the stove/oven. Ours at this house is gas but my last hosue was electric.
  • I went 6 weeks without electricity or gas once. We had one plug that worked from the hallway that we switched off using a microwave and a george foreman grill. It sucked, but we lived.

Since your electricity works, try eating fresh things that you don't have to cook. Hopefully they can get it on for you right away, but maybe make an extra trip to the grocery store to be prepared.

  • Honestly, if it doesn't work, I can always go to my mom's or my mother-in-laws to cook.  We do have a microwave (and electricity! yay! but that's only because I got it turned on myself!!) so I can just nuke the food for him.

But I'm still going to go Mon morning and see if anything can be done.

  • Unfortuantley, there's not too many raw things he can eat, besides grapes and blueberries.  His diet consists of things like zucchini, quinoa and chicken, which you can't eat raw!!  :(

I could survive, but DS definitely couldn't.  So high maintenance lol
