And so the pickiness begins....

My daughter was never a huge fan of meat (chicken, beef, etc--she would eat it sparingly) but she loved all veggies. And now in the past week, has been super picky about what she eats.

She pretty much will eat any cheese, or yogurt still. And any and all fruits. I think that part is my husband's doing--because when I was away last weekend--all of her snacks and meals ware fruit based.  I know her diet isn't unhealthy--but I definitely want more of it to be balanced. She still likes hummus and applesauce too. I am mostly concerned about vitamins that she isn't getting, plus her lack of protein.

She is allergic to eggs and haven't had PB yet.

Any meal ideas for protein/veggies?

Re: And so the pickiness begins....

  • Since she seems to love fruits, I would start with sweet veggies like sweet potatoes and carrots-cooked soft of course. Then gradually move to other veggies and veggie mixes. Does she drink milk? Milk is a good source of protein.

Here is an article I found about foods and protein...https://voices.yahoo.com/good-sources-protein-toddlers-2297285.html

  • She loves anything dairy. We limit her milk because she would drink it all day long. She also does love veggies on her pizza--so she had mushroom pizza the other day and didn't flinch while eating it.

Thanks for the article :) I'm off to read it now.

  • Meat and chicken is tough with ds, but if I cut it up extremely small and mix it with mashed potatoes or a creamy rice I can get him to eat it. You could also try and mix it with Mac n cheese

  • I don't know if this helps you at all but have you tried tofu? Personally, I think it sounds disgusting. A friend of mine tried it because her LO wouldn't eat any meat. Turns out, she LOVES it.

  • Have you tried letting her experiment with dipping sauce? My son will eat anything dipped in ketchup and it's fun to play with. Makes dinnertime a lot messier, but if the end result is getting her to eat more, it's worth it. :)  If she likes yogurt, she may take to yogurt based dips as well for meats/veggies.

Another idea when my kids go through picky spells is making your own pasta sauce and sneaking in veggies into the sauce, Homemade meatballs are easy to make, a good source of protein and generally toddler friendly.
