Hi ladies,
I have been hearing that almost always once a big 1st baby, following babies always tend to be bigger. Could anyone please respond based on real life experiences??
DD was 10lbs 10oz at birth and I gained a whopping 60lbs with her (no GD). Just trying to see where I am going to "land" with DS in weight range.
Thanks in advance!
Re: After big 1st baby, are subsequent babies "equal or bigger" in size?
DD was 8lb1oz I gained 27lb
DS was 9lb10oz I gained 20lb
My mom had three kids and each baby was smaller than the one before it. So really there's no way of saying what will happen.
DD1 was 6 lbs 15 oz. I gained 35 lbs
DD2 was 7 lbs 4 oz. I gained 40 lbs.
My doctor says boys are usually bigger than girls. DS was 9lbs 11oz and DD was 8lbs 10oz.
#1 was 8lb 3oz at 38wks
#2 was 6lb 1oz at 37wks
I had GD with both pregnancies, it was better controlled with #2, so that may be why she was smaller. I'm also an L&D nurse, and from my experience, most people have around the same size babies give or take a pound. If your first was a big baby, I'd expect a 9-10lb baby for #2.
DS was 8lbs 1oz (gained 35)
DD1 was 6lbs 1oz (gained 31)
DD2 was 7lbs (gained 26)
All of my kids were born within a few days of their due dates.
Not always true.
#1-10lbs, I gained 30lbs. No GD (though my OB thought it could have went undetected due to blood sugar issues with my son at birth).
#2-7lbs, 14oz, I gained 20lbs. No GD.
My grandmother had 6 kids. #3 was the biggest, #6 the smallest (and her "smallest" was over 9lbs still, biggest was 11lbs). It's not always true they keep getting bigger.
Both my sons were 9 lbs and 15 oz but older after 40 weeks and 5 days but younger after 38 weeks and 5 days so he was bigger.
I ganed 60 lbs with both of them.
#1- 32 lbs he was 8 lbs 5 oz born at 39w2d
#2 25 lbs she was 7 lbs 1 oz 38w4d
#3 33 lbs he was 8 lbs 3 oz 39w1d
#1 DS was 10 lbs, 22" at 39w1d. I gained 12 lbs
#2 DD was 9 lbs 2 oz, 21" at 37w0d. I gained 16 lbs (I had a lot of extra fluid).
I had GD with both. Technically, DD was smaller, but she was born 2 weeks earlier so....she is bigger than he was. He was estimated on u/s to be 8 lbs 8 oz at 37w1d (I had AFI/weight checks weekly with both). His last u/s was 6 hours before he was born and he was estimated to be 10 lbs 2 oz (he was 10 lbs 0.5oz) so they were pretty darn accurate. Her last u/s was 36w3d and she was estimated to be 8 lbs 11 oz again, pretty darn accurate.

Hmm, thank you all for your responses, I can see it's not true...however, I do see a trend in your responses: boys seem to be bigger than girls!!
Oh well, will be keeping my mind open as we might be in for another 10-pounder.
1st DD was 8lbs (I gained 37 lbs)
2nd DS was 8 lbs 11oz (I gained 30 lbs)
Both kids were late.
omg 10 lbs... ahh my first DS was 7lbs 1 oz 38wk.3.d and my second DS was 8lbs.6 oz 39 wk 1 day.. all natural but my second had to be vacummed cause i couldnt in the end .. i would have passed out with 10 lb baby! how brave lol
