I just had my first appt at what I thought was 7.5 weeks and my yolk sac formed, but there is nothing in it.  I'm beyond disappointed.  They said because of that I am probably closer to 5 wks but this could indicate a problem.  Has anyone else discovered an empty sac during an US and had a positive outcome still?  Trying to stay hopeful....

Re: Empty sac?
You might be earlier than you thought or suffering a loss called blighted ovum. Try not to despair. Are they going to give you another ultrasound later or draw blood work to see what your numbers are?
I hope you are just earlier and baby is younger than you think. Fingers crossed that this has a happy ending for you.

August 10th is a long time to wait and worry. I would ask if they could do some blood work before then.
My two boys are getting a surprise May 2015!
its blood work which will measure that amount of HcG (pregnancy hormone). you have the blood work at 48 hour intervals and number should double.

I'm experiencing the same thing. I thought I was about 8 weeks at my first appointment today, but my doctor said there wasn't anything in my sac. Then she thought she was able to see a flickering and said that could be the baby's heartbeat. I know she is trying to prepare me for the worst, but now I am obsessing over it. I go back next week for a more detailed ultrasound in the radiology department.
Sending good thoughts your way!
So two weeks from today?
We had the problem where my dates were off, and they thought LO stopped growing. They scheduled another u/s two weeks from the day, but in the meantime, gave us the option to draw and compare hcg levels. We opted for the blood draw AND the u/s.
I'd request the consecutive blood draws.
ETA: Once we had the results back from the blood, we breathed a sigh of relief and both agreed that we were glad we had them done, because we couldn't imagine waiting that loooooong two weeks to find out if our babe was even growing.
*lurking*
We thought we were about 6 weeks when I went to the ER for spotting red. My beta levels were well over 10,000 yet when they did the u/s there was only a small, empty sac. The tech even said it's so small I can't get a measurement on it.
Due to my high levels and still seeing nothing they diagnosed me as having a miscarriage. 4 days later our old RE got us in for a follow up u/s and there was a baby WITH a heartbeat. Turns out I was only 5w 2d at the ER and even though my levels were high it was still too early to see anything in the sac.
Try to hang in there and I would ask for some follow up bloodwork as well.
