She spent lots of time measuring and checking brain, heart, kidneys, etc. etc. At no time (that I could see, watching intently) did she go near the genitals. But finising up, a hand was moving about, and she said, "look! he's waving at us!"
I actually missed the gender comment completely, but my husband picked up on it immediately. A couple of friends mentioned that their techs warned them in advance that they may say "he or she" interchangably in the room, but to pay no attention. It was just intended as a neutral term.Ours gave us no such warning.
I'm not going to lie, my "girl" intuition is being ebbed away.
Either way, that was pretty freaking amazing.
Re: Did my US tech give away the gender?
I had the same A/S Yest, baby waved haha! They say dont base it on if they say he or she, I call the baby he a lot too, and we dont know, I think its just a neutral term by mistake, she said to us, she actually had to look in the area to tell and didnt go near it, hope that helps!
Not necessarily. Yesterday at my appointment (no u/s), my MW kept saying 'she' when referring to the baby. I have not had our a/s yet, so there is no way she could know.
I think especially since you didn't notice, it makes it seem even more unlikely that she slipped. I mean if she had said, 'he' and then covered her mouth or gasped then I would think she slipped. But if it was so causal in the conversation that you didn't even pick up on it, then I don't think she gave anything away.
Our tech uses the universal "he" the same way people would say "the baby." At our scan she told us how she's been trying to stop because one couple complained to the doctor because she said to them "Oh, he's moving around so much" and they didn't want to know the sex. The doc told them not to read into it but they left insisting the tech had given it away. What they don't know is that their little baby is a girl!
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
This Cluttered Life
She didn't necesseraly tell you. He is used to reference an indefinite person. He can be a gender neutral pronoun.
