I am not currently working, and our roommate just moved out on July 1. About a week before he moved out we had to replace our air conditioner. We got a good price, so it only cost us about $6,000, but still money we did not need to be spending. I woke up this morning and was making coffee for DH and I looked at the fridge and there was a giant puddle of water under it. I went and told DH and he said it was because the freezer melted during the night. He came and took the back panel off, and the compressor went out. So now we are looking at another $1,000 we have to spend, that we really don't have to be spending. uggg...
I know we could get a used one, but it really doesn't seem worth it in the long run.
Re: fml...when it rains it pours...vent
I hear ya - our fridge conked out on us earlier this year too - money we didn't have but we NEEDED a fridge...
Then we learned last week our computer died. I'm hopeful the hard drive is salvageable but now we need a new computer.
Oh yeah and we're still not done with the nursery so there's the money to finish that room off...
Money has been my biggest stress this year...I feel like we NEVER have enough! And when I think we might be getting ahead, a big ticket item breaks. F!!!
I'm sorry that sucks oh so much! I understand the pain as well. We bought our house summer 2011. Right away we had to reshingle the garage $1500. The fall we had to buy a new furnace and water heater $6,000. Then right before Christmas we had a pipe burst $1200. About 2 months ago we needed our sewer drain snaked $200. And now with the nursery and I can tell that our fridge (although its newish) is going to go probably sooner than later.
Its when things go wrong I wish we still rented. Yet I remember how much we hated renting and remember the awful people who lived below us in the basement suite. I would prefer to go through all this. I just put myself in a state of mind thinking about my little family and how good we have it compared to others.
Seriously. Luckily DH got a bonus at work last week, but that only covers about half of the fridge.
I guess the most important thing is that LO and I are both healthy, aside from the high BP that snuck up on me and the Dr is "keeping an eye on."
I understand, when we moved into our house and started to paint a wall came down, 3 weeks later the dryer broke and then a month after that our fence fell over.
If you have Lowes in your area check out a scratch and dent fridge or we bought a dryer from a local appliance store that was used but in amazing shape. Good luck!! I hope your week goes better!

Thanks for the suggestion, but its pretty old to begin with. It was handed down to DH about 5 years ago when his grandparents bought a new one, so I'm pretty sure it is probably closer to 10 years old. We knew the day was coming, but today just was not the right day! lol
I'm hoping I will find an open box one at lowes. We did that about a year ago on a new stove and hanging microwave, when those both went out. We ended up getting a $1500 stove for about $600, and a $400 microwave for $200. I have my fingers crossed I can find one of these.
They also have really good prices on refurbished items online at BestBuy.com. I think you can still pick it up in store.
I didn't even think about best buy! That is an awesome idea, they are offering an extra 5% off if you use you best buy credit card, and 18 months no interest, and I already have a best buy card!! You are a life saver!
i feel you pac,
We've been stressing over MH's job! it sucks to be stressing while you're pregnant.

I keep blowing kisses and sweet words at the AC because damn, it's old. C'mon sweetie, just one more year.
That blows. I'm sorry. We've had that happen to us many times, only now I have no room to complain because I no longer work.
