When can babies eat puffs?

My LO will be starting food this weekend....obviously I'm going to start slow, I new veggie or fruit every few days but just wondering when they can start puffs? I remember how much my nephew loved them!

Re: When can babies eat puffs?

  • DS didn't start puffs until we were well into purees. He couldn't pick them up on his own until the last month or so. He's a pro at it now, though.

  • Both of my sons started eating puffs around 6-7 months.  (DS1 a little later because I was a FTM and so nervous to give them to him.) The Gerber ones say they are for crawler stage, so when my boys started army crawling we started giving them for snacks.

  • My baby started puffs at about 7 months, and now at 8 months, he loves them! Before 7 months he couldn't really pick them up, or didn't want to:)

  • I started a few weeks after we started purees, so about 6.5 months. LO was reaching and grabbing food so I gave them to her.
  • We were told to start puffs at our 6 month appointment so she can work on her pincher grasp.  We started pur?es at 4.5mo though.  I'm not sure if they need practice with food first as DD still vomits when things (small pieces of food or the puffs) get too far back on her tongue & she doesn't eat much of the puffs.

We started Puffs at 6 months but she wasn't really into them until she hit 7 months on the dot.  We've been doing purees since 4.5 months.  Once she did the Puffs, we started her on all kinds of mushy foods bits... bananas, peaches, steamed carrots, etc.

  • DD has been eating solids consistently since a little over 6 months, except the past week or twoit's been hit or miss with her. We were told to not do puffs and stuff until 9 months but honestly I don't go with my pedi on stuff like this because she's very to the book and that bugs me, she had no idea what BLW was and when I explained she almost had a heart attack, I swear.

She's eaten a lot of solid finger foods, we haven't tried puffs yet... they're in my cabinet though. But she LOVES those yogurt drop things and the little tomato cheese doodles.

  • One of my girls is really good at grasping them and putting them in her mouth.  So I give them to her usually once or twice a day after she eats.  My other DD does not like them.  She does alright with picking them up but isn't good at getting them to her mouth.  They are both 7 months old.

  • As soon as they can pick them up AND put them into their own mouths.  It takes awhile for them to be able to open their fist to eat what's inside it.

  • The back of my DD's puffs container says your baby is ready to try puffs when they can do the following:

    1. Crawl on their hands & knees, without their tummy touching the floor
    2. Eat thicker solids with larger pieces
    3. Use their jaws to mash food with gums
    4. Pick up food to eat on their own with thumb and forefinger.

My DD hasn't perfected her pincer grasp just yet, but she still manages to get them in her mouth and eats them without issue.
