Everyday when I go visit my son in the NICU the nurses tell me how well he is doing and ask me if I've watched the videos or received the packets for release yet. Yesterday I received a call about scheduling his next eye exam closer to my home. I had to be air lifted to Denver when I was originally hospitalized because my local hospital does not have a NICU. So its about an hour drive if there is no traffic. Anyway he had his first exam on the 16th and we were told no signs of ROP and he didn't need another for 3 weeks and they have no doubt now he will be home before that. They also switched him from the hospital formula to the one we will use with him at home. I'm so excited! He still falls asleep after only half a bottle though. Which worries me. They said he has to take more volume but he is waking up at each feeding now. Or maybe just when I'm there. I really want him home!
Re: Getting Closer..
He will be home before you know it!
I know when DS was in the NICU, it seemed like he was there an eternity (total of 40 days), and every little milestone that brought him closer to coming home was really exciting :-) I can hardly believe he's been home now for over 4 months...time flies, and it will for you too!
Thanks! I also have to remember every baby is different and living a mile high tends to slow the release down a little since we live in thinner air. So I think the biggest milestone he has had was really getting off the oxygen they told us originally he'd have to go home on it. Ever since the LO next the pod over was released I've been more anxious. It will be my turn soon enough.. we are at day 41 right now.

Sounds like he is doing wonderfully. He will get the bottle down before you know it and he will be home soon. Definitely keep us posted.
Sounds like he is doing great! I know it seems like forever now but he will be home before you know it. My lo was doing the same thing with eating and then one day he was good and ready to come home.
