Any Young College Mamas Out There?

Im 19  and this will be my second year at my community college. Ever since I graduated with my son my senior year I made school my future and priority. I work full time and go to school full time, as well as take care of my 15 month old. Were any young mommas getting FASFA? I really need to look into all the scholarship oppurtunites that are available for young mothers, because it would definately help me out financially. Let me know if you know of any sources or programs for school!:) thanks.

  • Have you talked to anyone in financial aid? I asked a similar question on a different board and this was where I was directed. I'm going to school online, and I ended up getting the Pell grant and getting student loans (ugh). I didn't have a chance to talk with anyone in financial aid since it was at the end of my pregnancy, but I would start with them. They may know of scholarships or grants that you can apply for.

This. I would definitely go ask the financial aid department. There might be scholarships available for single mothers/parents at your school that you could be missing out on. Typically, they try to help in situations like this. I think FASFA is also another great option. Best of luck. :)

  • Yes.  I went to a community college for my AS and then transferred (Physically moved 7 hours away as well) to a university.  The university I transferred to gave student parents an additional $8000 grant on top of the Pell and other grants I received through the state.
