About an hour and a half after I've last pumped, I start to feel a tingling, aching sensation in my breasts. It almost feels like they're "filling up". (sorry if that's gross) I usually pump every 2-3 hours, but the longer I go without pumping, the more they'll ache.
Is this normal? I don't know if it's related, but I've never felt a letdown, maybe because I exclusively pump.
Re: Is this normal?
I sometimes have multiple letdowns while pumping, though, so it may be.
I EP and sometimes feel this after pumping. It feels like letdown but sometimes I think it's just nipple sensitivity.
Let downs can happen spontaneously at any time. If I haven't fed LO in a while, I will have a let down and start leaking everywhere. Sometimes it will happen a few times during pumping and also twice during a feeding for me. Sometimes when LO is eating frequently and going through a spurt, I feel more let downs happen very soon after our feeding is over. It can be a different feeling for different women. Some describe it as a filling up sensation, some say pins and needles, then there are those unfortunate people like me that have painful let downs. For me it feels like being stabbed in the boob with a knife. It's NBD anymore for me though since it only lasts a few seconds.
Do a little bit of research on Thrush and Ductal Yeast Infections. It sounds similar to the pain that I was feeling (and unfortunately am feeling again). I was treated with 2 rounds of diflucan, antibiotics and Dr. Jack Newman's All Purpose Nipple Ointment. Don't be afraid to see a doctor if your symptoms match those of Ductal Thrush... however, don't expect General Practictioners to be much help. Mine weren't. But fortunately I found a Lactation Consultant who partners with a GP or pediatrician and they finally were able to treat me properly for it.
Again, do a little bit of research but it sounds similar to what I was feeling. Good luck!
