Nurses need to read paperwork vent (loss)

Yesterday was my D&C surgery and all in all it went ok.

when i first arrived I met my nurse jamie who went over my name and birthdate then handed me a jar to urinate into.

I asked what they were testing for and she replied "Oh just to make sure your not pregnant".  <<<<<<throat punch>>>>

I of course replied that I was there due to  lost pregnancy.

  Now i tried to not get upset at this nurse because a D&c is not used for just losses. But she was clearly looking at my large book of paperwork and on the front page and many others(i may have looked through it) it says missed abortion.

    Especially in her line of work, that nurse NEEDS to read the paperwork.  Maybe the office manager should be let known about this so it saves other women this awkward and painful moment.  Let one of us know, we could make the phone call so you don't have to...

  • That's terrible.  The reason paperwork is there is to inform people of the current situation, hence being able to avoid such jacka$$ery.  Hug!

  • I'm so sorry. It was extremely inconsiderate and unprofessional of her. Hopefully next time she will check someone's chart before making a comment like that. Hugs to you and your family is in my thoughts.

    I'm so sorry, mrsgabus.  That totally sucks.  People really need to think before they speak, especially in her line of work!

  • I had a similar thing happen and I was very frustrated and was thinking about switching my OB because of it.

     Before I had my first child I had a miscarriage early in my pregnancy.  Before the m/c I called my OB to say I was pregnant and set up my first appointment.  Before that appointment I had the m/c and called and told them and they asked me to still come in to get checked out.  Well, at the appointment the nurse and even the doctor asked me the reason I was there and I kept having to explain I had a m/c and they had asked me to come in.  Not sure if my phone conversations never got in my file or what but I was rather annoyed.

    Then six months later I got pregnant again and went in for my first appointment and I don't even know what happened to my file but they thought I was a new patient and thought it was my first pregnancy and said everything should be smooth, but I had to keep bringing up that I was just there 6 months ago w/ a m/c and was worried that it wouldn't go smoothly.  That caught them off guard - if they would have just read my file I wouldn't have had to keep talking about it.

     Sorry to hijack your post w/ my own story.

  • Ugh, I am so sorry she didn't bother to read it. {{{{hugs}}}}

    Awe this sounds even worse than what I went through, I would have definately switched ob's.

    Luckily My Ob is a wonderful women and her staff of nurses and reception are absolutely amazing. The local hospital staff are the ones that suck and My husband did file a complaint this morning after I read some comments to him from these wonderful Gals :)

    I am definitely thanking my stars for you Bump gals, My husband was not able to understand why I loved my Bump so much and now he is so thankful you all are here.

  • So sorry about the pure suckiness of people!  I agree that the  bump gals are A+!

  • I am sorry you had to endure that.  I hope you are doing ok.  I am sure the stupid nurse realized her mistake and will probably be dwelling on that for a while.  Hugs!
