email from school about West Nile

we got an email from DD's school yesterday saying that there has been a reported case of west nile in our town. So starting today we have to dress the kids in long pants and long sleeved shirts and they can only play outside for a very limited amount of time in the early morning.

I don't mind taking precautions, but feel bad for DD because she loves her dresses and skirts and it's been pretty warm and muggy out

  • I'm glad they're being cautious but would bug spray not suffice? If I had to do that I would look into rash gaurd type surfing tops so she wouldn't get too hot.

  • So do they cover their faces as well because they can still get bit in the face. So far this year we have not had any cases in our county but we have in a couple of neighboring counties. Not sure what our daycare would do but it seems like they should be willing to put on bug spray just like they do sunscreen. I could see sending my kid in long pants if they stayed inside but outside in 100F seems a little much. Don't they also still recommend using bug spray even when you go out in long pants/long sleeved shirts ( and I mean this generally speaking not in reference to the daycare)? Can you send her with long pants/long sleeves that she could change into whentheydo go outside? It would still suck because it would be hot but at least inside she would be more comfortable.
