EBF Moms...Bottle Question

For all you EBF moms whose kids are at daycare or in child care all day, I have a couple questions...

How many times does your child eat/BF each day?

How far apart are the feelings?

How many ounces does your child eat in each bottle?

How many bottles do they take when you're away?

Also, how many times do you pump during the day? (I'm hoping to fit in 2 pumping sessions after my first morning session, but I'm not sure how that will work yet!)

Thank you for your help! I have to go back to work in a month and don't know where to start with how many ounces in each bottle because up until now he's not taken a bottle. Now he takes a sippy cup, so I'm trying to plan ahead. :)

ETA pumping question.

How many times does your child eat/BF each day? He eats every 3 hours, so around 6 times a day.

How far apart are the feelings? every 3 hours.

How many ounces does your child eat in each bottle? 4-5 ounces.

How many bottles do they take when you're away? We send him with 4 bottles.

Also, how many times do you pump during the day? (I'm hoping to fit in 2 pumping sessions after my first morning session, but I'm not sure how that will work yet!)  I pump every 3 hours, so 6 times a day.

How many times does your child eat/BF each day? 3 or 4 times a day, depending on how much he naps

How far apart are the feelings? 2-3 hours

How many ounces does your child eat in each bottle? 4-5 oz

How many bottles do they take when you're away? I send the storage  bags to DC and they use what they need. I typically send 14-17 oz each day and end up with some left over.

Also, how many times do you pump during the day? (I'm hoping to fit in 2 pumping sessions after my first morning session, but I'm not sure how that will work yet!) For me, I started out pumping 3x/day. I found that I didn't have much milk left by the time I got home doing this and I had too much for DC. Next I pumped 2x a day but I still didn't feel confident about my supply when I was at home for the evening. Now I pump once at work (around 11am), and then I don't pump again until after C goes to bed. I still get the same amount to send with him to DC, and I feel confident that he got enough from my breasts to be full in the evenings.

Your pumping schedule can be totally different depending on how much milk you're producing. I have over supply (which is pretty regulated these days) but I can pump enough for the next day in just two sessions...Some people need more sessions, some less. Listen to your body and do what works for you.

I'm in the same boat as you and need to get her prepared for going to daycare at some point - sorry to hijack the thread but what sippy cup are you using?  Natalie won't take a bottle but I'd like to try a sippy cup.

For all you EBF moms whose kids are at daycare or in child care all day, I have a couple questions...

How many times does your child eat/BF each day?  1 time before DC, 3 feedings at DC, and 2 feedings before bedtime

How far apart are the feelings? typically 3 hours - except in the evenings, LO BFs around 5:30 -6 and then again around 7:30 just before bed.

How many ounces does your child eat in each bottle? 4 oz.

How many bottles do they take when you're away? 3

Also, how many times do you pump during the day? (I'm hoping to fit in 2 pumping sessions after my first morning session, but I'm not sure how that will work yet!) I usually pump around 10 a.m. (when LO gets her first bottle at DC) and I pump at least 4 oz. sometimes I pump both sides and get 8 oz. I typically go over and BF DD at lunchtime but if not, then I pump again around 3 p.m.  I will pump one side.

Now he takes a sippy cup, so I'm trying to plan ahead. :)  DD didn't really take a bottle before starting DC but she never had any problems there.

No problem! We are using the trainer sippy cup by Avent. We had all Avent bottles so I really didn't want to start over and have to buy a bunch of new stuff. I decided to try their cup with the sippy cup nipple and thankfully he'll take it! It's flexible and flat and my theory is that he takes it because it's different enough from the breast. He's never taken a paci and only wants the breast, so I think the regular bottle nipples are just too close, but not what he wants. :)

  • With me she eats every 2-2.5 hours. At dc she goes a little longer 2.5-3. So she takes 3-4 bottles of 3oz of milk. I pump in the car on the way to work ( around 715-730). Then I pump at 1030 and 2. That's my goal. I'm a nurse so if I have a sick patient or a crazy day then it can be a bit later.

  • How many times does your child eat/BF each day? She about every two hours, usually about 4-5 times/day

How far apart are the feelings? See above

How many ounces does your child eat in each bottle? Usually 3-4oz, sometimes 5, sometimes 2.

How many bottles do they take when you're away? Usually between 4-5. Sometimes she eats more. I don't feel comfortable leaving with less than 6-7 bottles ready.

Also, how many times do you pump during the day? (I'm hoping to fit in 2 pumping sessions after my first morning session, but I'm not sure how that will work yet!) I pump twice - at 10 and at 2. I'm usually at work from 8-5.

ETA: I've got the advantage that DD stays at home, so I don't have to bring the bottles anywhere - I just make sure there are enough in the fridge ready to go for the day.

    Pass the sheet cake.

  • How many times does your child eat/BF each day?  4 times, rarely 5

How far apart are the feelings? about every 2 hours. I feed him before he goes to DC and by the time I pick him up he's ready to eat again.

How many ounces does your child eat in each bottle? 4 oz

How many bottles do they take when you're away? 4-5 depending on the day

Also, how many times do you pump during the day? (I'm hoping to fit in 2 pumping sessions after my first morning session, but I'm not sure how that will work yet!) I pump 2 times during the day. Usually around 12p and 3p. LJ only nurses from one side at a time so by me pumping both sides twice a day its like him eating 4 times a day.

  • How many times does your child eat/BF each day?

Between 3-5 times.  Depending on night time wake ups. 4 bottles at daycare

How far apart are the feelings?

    2-3 hours, except at night.

How many ounces does your child eat in each bottle?

I just transitioned her to 4.5 oz in her daycare bottles 4 times a day.  8:45am, 10:45am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm

How many bottles do they take when you're away? 4

Also, how many times do you pump during the day? (I'm hoping to fit in 2 pumping sessions after my first morning session, but I'm not sure how that will work yet!)

I had been pumping twice a day at 10am and 2pm, but because my LO needs more milk I try to pump at 8:30, 11:30 and 3:00pm, but am not always able to do so.  I also pump right before bed because she used to eat right before I went to bed, but since she has dropped that feeding I use it to add to her daycare bottles.  Her last feeding is at 7pm right before bed and she wakes at 3am to eat again and I'm not comfortable going that long between feedings.

  • How many times does your child eat/BF each day? Usually 7 times (4 at home, 3 at daycare)

How far apart are the feelings? 2-3 hours

How many ounces does your child eat in each bottle? We were doing 4 4oz but he was still hungry after 4 so we changed to 3 5oz and he is much happier.  Usually gets hungry again in about 2.5 hours.

How many bottles do they take when you're away? 3 bottles

Also, how many times do you pump during the day? (I'm hoping to fit in 2 pumping sessions after my first morning session, but I'm not sure how that will work yet!) I pump 4 times per day.  3 times at work 9:30, 12:30, 3 and once at night around 10 before I go to bed.  That gives me enough for daycare and usually by the end of the week I have some extra that I either use to thin solids or freeze.

How far apart are the feelings? 2.5 to 4 hrs

How many ounces does your child eat in each bottle? on days that she really resists she will eat as little as 2 oz the whole day, but on a good day (not often) as much as 8 oz- her average is about 5 oz

How many bottles do they take when you're away? She usually only needs 1 bottle
