C-sections

Trapped gas?

I had a c-section almost a month ago. Every once in a while I get an uncomfortable feeling in my upper abdomen. It feels a little bit tight like but doesn't hurt, it's difficult to explain. Has anyone experienced this? I'm thinking maybe it's trapped gas from the surgery. Gas-x helps a little bit.

Re: Trapped gas?

  • I kinda doubt it's trapped gas. My doc says it takes a few days for your body to reabsorb trapped gas after surgery.  If it's been a month, you're still healing.  Take it easy.

I wonder what it could be because it's so high up and it doesn't really hurt, it just feels funny. I wonder what could be healing so high up. I'm thinking because it doesn't hurt I can wait two weeks until my post op check up.

But don't gallbladder attacks hurt? This doesn't hurt, just feels a little funny.

When I was pregnant I had major pain there and the docs thought it was my gallbladder but I got an ultrasound and my gallbladder was perfect and no stones. They think it was just pressure of everything being squished while big and pregnant.

  • I don't know about anyone else but the trapped gas I had hurt like hell! It didn't hit me until 3 days after my cs & it had me in tears until the nurse had me get up, move around & drink a cup of tea. My upper abdomen had a funny feeling through the healing process, my Dr said during surgery there is a lot of pressure in that area & that it's normal to feel a bit sore throughout my stomach.

This happened to me exactly. I went to my OBs office and at all my PP appointments I told them this. It started as a dull uncomfortable sensation then grew to pain. They told me it was gas/constipation and wrote it off every time. Well... I would spend hours on the toilet trying to "get rid of it" and nothing. I would cry and it would hurt like crazy... I even went in the shower like when I was having contractions with LO.

My last attack was by far the worst. It left me screaming in pain and crawling on all fours on the floor, somehow hoping it would help. My husband thought I was posessed or something. Turns out I had a gallbladder stone lodged in my gallbladder that was the size of a quarter and it was causing my chest to swell horribly against my ribcage. It was probably about 5 times more painful than labor.

It's better to get it checked and be safe now and go in with practically no pain, then get to the point I was at where surgery is RELIEF. I was in the hospital and morphine wasn't cutting it. Get checked out and GL

  • I know this is going to sound weird, but drink pineapple juice.  It really does help with trapped gas..
