Cloth Diapering

When to buy diaper stash?

Is there a good time to complete/almost complete your stash?  I'm almost 21 weeks and have been slowly stocking up.  We've been buying a few of different types and plan to have a combination of Bumgenius, Blueberry & Glowbugs in our stash.

I'm hesitant to wait until baby is here mainly because I'm a planner...with a bit of "cant wait" mixed in there too Stick out tongue

Re: When to buy diaper stash?

  • Anytime you have money! My CD stash was the first thing I started on because it's wise to have it be gender netural to really stretch your dollar over a few kids.

Bumgenius - I'd buy now. The Buy 5 get 1 Free is still going on on most sites that sell them!!

I wouldn't wait until baby's here. I'm behind you and my stash is mostly done. Go nuts!

  • I'm also in the middle of my 20th week, and I've already purchased pretty much everything I'll need to start.  I'm also a planner and I couldn't wait... my plan is to be basically ready to go by the time the 3rd trimester rolls around.  Probably won't feel like prepping diapers and whatnot after that anyways :)

  • I've slowly been buying since before we even got pregnant this time :)

  • I bought my stash throughout my pregnancy.  It was a good plan that worked for me, but I also bought a really diverse stash.  I'd probably caution against buying a ton of all one kind of diaper before your baby is here, but otherwise go for it!

  • Thanks ladies!! Not only do I feel reassured I showed DH your responses to prove I'm NOT a crazy diaper lady haha

  • I agree- when you are ready and find a good deal or something you are looking for, I'd chip away at the stash bit by bit.

  • I bought them during pregnancy. I had a few where the elastic started to wear fairily soon, after maybe 5 months use. The warranty on them Is one year. Like I said we had only been using them for five months but she didn't fit into them for the first two months and I had bought them several months before that so we were already out of warranty even though we didn't get a whole years use. Something to keep in mind.

This just happened to me with a BG diaper.  Alas, if I had to do it all over again, I think I would co a newborn rental then a regular sized diaper trial then bought my shash after that.. but I had to buy a few at a time throughout the pregnancy because of finances.

  • I bought the majority of my stash when I found CDs at a good price in the used section of online stores. All of my BG CDs were bought from cotton babies, but they haven't had any in their used section in months. I haven't paid more than $10 for any of mine, so its taken a while to amass enough to get me through. I'm likely going to wind up buying a couple more OS CDs once she's out of her NB CDs, but that should be minimal.

  • I started a month ago, we had the money so I desided now was a good time! I have one more ordewr to make and I should have my stash completed! pretty much everything is gender neutral as I want to keep the savings going for when/if we have number 2....although I have about 6 pocket dipes that are girly ones :) I also did a big order from wise planet and got a few wet bags (medium and large) diaper pail liners, a changing pad, wipes bags and a shoulder bag which I will use as a diaper bag, oh and I also got 4 dozen wipes! next is a diaper pail, detergent, butt cream and possibly a wipes warmy :)
  • DH & I made the firm commitment to CD when I was about 6 months. I started stashing right away. However, I only stashed for nb. I got a huge variety of dipes (AIO, pocket, fitted, prefolds, covers) and the essentials (wipes, pail, liner, wetbags, snappi's, etc). I made a checklist, like they give you at BRU to register with and just checked off as I went along. After a month of actual diapering, we knew which ones we thought we wanted to go with for a OS stash, so I found some used on craigslist and eBay to try. We loved them, so it was then that I stashed up for the long term. We were in nb for about 2 months (brought DD home at 6#).

This. A lot of my friends who CD also told me to be careful about buying too many of each brand. Not all CDs fit all babies the same way, and you don't want to end up with 15 diapers that leak for your baby.
