Sleeping with a blanket

I was wondering if anyone has their LO sleeping with a blanket for warmth.  DH likes to crank up the A/C and I think the little man feels a bit cool in the morning.  Not that he is complaining, but just wondering at what point do you think it is OK to have him sleep with a blanket.

Re: Sleeping with a blanket

  • Good question!  I just started letting my LO sleep with a thin receiving blanket.  Call me crazy, but I think he sleeps better when his bum is covered up.  I also have the bumpers up in his crib because he is such a wild sleeper that I felt bad him hitting his head on the wooden slats of the crib.

  • I have been covering LO with a blanket since he was 9 months old. Never had an issue, usually he kicks it off of him to the bottom of the crib.

  • Been using a blanket for naps for probably about a month now. I was worried about him getting cold too with the AC on and wearing shorts for naps.

  • My LO uses muslin swaddle blankets. Every time he goes to sleep I give him his blanket and he rubs it on his cheek and gets very relaxed. I love the fact they are very lightweight and get softer and softer when washed. I bought them here - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042TYYQQ/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00

  • G has a thin swaddling blanket that she cuddles with to sleep. Lately I've been sneaking in there before bed and covering up her legs with another thin blanket since the a/c is kicking on more often at night now.

During the winter I covered her with a very lose knit afghan.

  • Quite awhile. I want to say like 6ish months I let her have it at nap when I was around to supervise and she had it at night by 9ish months?

I've always had a strong baby that had great head control so I never got too worked about a blanket.

Now she sleeps best with one but tends to lie on top of it.

I have a naturally hot kid though. She sleeps best only in a diaper at about 70. She's an instant crank if she's the least bit uncomfortable.

  • We use one and if our LO does not want it he will just kick it off.

  • I've been letting dd (10months old) sleep with one for a couple of weeks now. She has always loved blankets and I kept noticing her taking the blankets in the living room and laying down sucking her thumb with them. So I put one of her many crocheted blankets in her bed. I used to check on her but now I just let her go. I usually find her legs covered up or her just cuddling with it :)

  • DD has been using a blanket to a really long time, she HAS to have one to cuddle with to fall asleep.
  • He started sleeping with a blanket around 9 months.  However, he kicks it off.  He sleeps in footed long sleeve sleepers since his room has AC.

  • We read the No Cry Sleep Solution and one of the things in it was to introduce a lovie or blankie. We tried to introduce one around 8 months and he has yet to form an attachment to it, but I still cover his lower half with it to give him extra warmth.

  • I would if I thought it would stay on her.  DD still uses a Halo cotton sleepsack -- at some point she'll grow out of them but right now they are part of her sleep routine.

ETA: she also has a small lovey (bear head attached to small soft blanket).

  • LO has slept with a handknit blanket since he was 6 months.  More for comfort than warmth though.

  • DS has been sleeping with a blanket since he was about 3 months old (GASP!). Since he's a tummy sleeper he never really kicked it off. Now that he's older and rolling/standing/jumping all over the place in his crib, we usually put some pants or jammies on him at night since the blanket wont stay over him. He has his security blanket that he sleeps with every night though and mostly just bundles it up underneath him and snuggles it when he's sleeping.

We use a Halo sleep sack since DD moves around so much at night. A blanket would never stay on and keep her covered.
