it's official. little ginny is suffering from a minor (thank god!) case of colic. it isn't pretty. the poor thing sobs for a few hours each evening. it breaks my heart that we cannot comfort her. our fab pediatrician has us giving her probiotic drops once a day. supposedly we should see positive results (dramatic decrease in tears) in about a week. since birth she has always been VERY gassy. the tiny tummy is upset and this makes me upset.
anyone else dealing with a colicky child?
Re: colic.........oy.
When I was in high school I babysat for a family with a colicky baby. His mom paid me to come over 4 times a week between 5 and 7 when he was at his worst just to hold him so she could have a break. I know that there has been lots of success with acupuncture and chiropractic care and cholic.
Good Luck!
I'm so sorry! My sister's first baby was the exact same way, it was very wearing on her.
I hope things get better soon.
My sister's first was super colicky. It nearly drove her insane. Like the pp wrote, she found holding him really helped soothe him. She'd strap him in the baby bjorn and go about her housework.
I hope the probiotic drops really help!
Hee hee hee...
I didn't think that fussy from 4-7 was "colic" I thought it was "infant"!!
All the Moms I know call it "happy hour" (jokingly of course)
I know of very few tots who don't have a long, stressful fussy spell in the evenings.
GL to you! I hope you both find some relief soon.

Ugh. Colic = one of my biggest fears. So sorry for you all!
Sickness, colic and wind
Regurgitation of milk between feeds, bouts of prolonged crying due to colic and wind. Often worse in the evening. The nerve to the stomach may be irritated as it exits from the base of the skull, which can impair digestion. The diaphragm between the chest and the abdomen may be stressed or distorted, which further compromises both digestion and the ability of the stomach to retain its contents. Stress from a difficult or fast birth can leave the digestive system in tension trapping wind. Any strain through the umbilical cord, for instance if it was around the baby's neck, can add to strains in the abdomen.
LO #1 - 1 unmedicated/self-monitored IUI w/ donor sperm.
LO #2 - 1 m/c, 2 BFNs, 4th IUI worked (unmedicated/self-monitored with new donor sperm).
Life is beautiful!
Ugh. I'm sorry you are dealing with this. Have you tried Gentlease yet? My friend thought her son had colic and he was a totally different baby when she put him on Gentlease. You might also try the DVD Happiest Baby on the Block (I like the DVD more than the book). The techniques there are supposed to help with colic but I've found them hit or miss when DS is crying. GL-- hang in there!
