s/o home buying, websites in the states

We live in SK, CAN right now but my DH is always looking for new opportunities anywhere and a lot of them are in the states.  He likes me to look at the area and into houses if he gets into further interviews with places.

Last November we almost moved to Phoenix, AZ for an opportunity for him but he ended up not getting it last minute.  So I am wondering if you ladies can suggest any websites that I can look into.  Right now he is in CA (San Diego area) for an interview.  A month ago he interviewed for a company in NC.

TIA!

  • MLS.com is the multiple listing service where you would be able to view quite a bit

Once we knew roughly where we were looking/our price range we also found zillow.com to be helpful.

MLS is generally only available to agents/brokers.

Zillow isn't the most up to date on what is available.

    Trulia.com is ok.

Realtor.com is descent to start your search because it is updated directly by MLS (not sure if Trulia is). I know that Realtor.com charges for anymore than 4 pictures so if you find a house you like, go to the realtor's website and you will probably find more pics.

  • National websites usually are not your best bet as they aren't as up-to-date as the actual MLS.  Realtor.com is better than zillow and trulia, but it can still take up to 48 hours for changes to go through.

Your best bet is to find an agent's website in each market you are looking in who offers an IDX feed on their site.  It's often called "Search the MLS" or "Search all listings" or something to that effect on their site.  The IDX feed is a direct feed into the MLS is constantly up-to-date.

    Hands down, www.redfin.com!

This!  We found our house here.  It's the most complete and current site that I've found...

  • I agree that redfin is the best because you can clearly see where in the city is located and other houses for sale nearby on the map. It also shows property taxes per year which is great. The only problem is that they do not service all areas so it can be hit and miss. I'm pretty sure San Diego is covered though.
