Anyone give fresh mozzerella?

I want to give C caprese salad, but I think that fresh cheese is a no-no, right?  I looked at wholesome babyfood, and they didn't specifically mention fresh mozz., but they do talk about how non-pasteurized cheess can contain listeria.  What do you think?

Re: Anyone give fresh mozzerella?

  • I give my little one pieces of sliced mozerella. Hard cheese like cheddar and *I believe* semi soft cheese like mozerella are okay. I told the pedi the foods I give her and she wasn't concerned about any of them. I think the cheeses you have to worry about are feta, Panela, Brie etc. Is fresh mozz pasteurized?

  • If you are shopping in a regular grocery store it's unlikely you will be buying unpasteurized cheeses.
  • Yes, I'm sure it's pasteurized.  I believe that it is illegal to sell unpasteurized cheese in the US.  I've heard of chefs smuggling in food from other countries because supposedly pasteurization takes away some of the flavor.  Thanks ladies, looks like we'll have a caprese sandwich for lunch today :-)

  • DD has had it fresh.

She's been given the go ahead on all foods except honey, actual milk and egg whites.
