9 month wellness check-up

We had to go in a little later than normal for her check-up, because doctor was on vacation (and she had hfm during her first scheduled appointment).  DD stayed at her normal rate of 90% weight at 21 lbs 3 oz and 75% for length at 28.25".  Her tiny little legs at birth are now the most tasty little chunk nuggets.

Re: 9 month wellness check-up

  • What ate these percentages based on? DD was 60% at 18.2 pounds and 20% at 27.75 inches

Maybe your percentages are mixed up?

S was 33% for weight at 18lb12oz and 86% for height at 28.75".

  • She could have them mixed up or her dr could use a different chart. I have noticed that there is a lot of variance in the percentiles among the babies on here, even when they are almost the same size. The chart for boys and girls is different and different dr's use different charts. My dr actually uses one that I would consider outdated.

  • I just checked the print out. That's what it says. Also 40% for head circumference of 44 cm
  • I'm pretty sure this is what Tysons was getting at, but I'll see if I can clarify a bit.  (I feel like we have this same problem everytime there's a new check-up)

There are 2 charts for percentiles.  The CDC is the chart that was used for years and years and years  (probably what you were compared to when you were born).  But the problem is, it's outdated and was based on formula fed babies, who grow at different rates than breastfed babies.

The WHO put out a new revised chart in 2006 and the AAP and CDC both recommend this chart should be used instead.  It basically drops down the percentiles to account for breastfed babies.  However, not every doctor is using the WHO chart, which accounts for the variance in percentiles on this board.

Thanks for the info!  I figured all doctors went by the same chart, but it seems they do not.  Regardless, DD is growing and healthy.  She hasn't had formula yet, so I am not sure how that would compared to what my doctor used.  I've looked at the CDC one online, and from what I can see, DD measures in the higher percentage. I will take a look at the WHO chart just out of curiousity.
