October 2011 Moms

What do you do when they are standing in the crib, screaming?

I ask because 8:30am is too early to start drinking, even for me. Wes is clearly tired and ready for his first nap, but he insists on standing in the crib and bouncing up and down, crying "mama" over and over. It's killing me. I went in a few times and laid him down, but like a little robot, he gets right back up again. Please tell me this phase will pass. Quickly.
July 20th, 2012: Never forget the day the fb douchebags tried so hard, but ultimately failed. Viva la October 2011! Yeah, I called you douchebags.

  • I have no idea, I freaken hate this phase. We were at such a good place where I could put DS down awake, but now putting him down awake results in screaming standing baby shennanigans. So I resorted nursing to sleep again because I am too tired for anything else.

  • DD started doing this when she was able to pull herself up. At first I would go in and lay her back down, but she'd just stand back up, over and over. So I stopped. She always eventually fell asleep on her own. It didn't usually take more than 10-15 minutes.

After 2 weeks of this, she mostly stopped. Now it only happens occasionally. There is hope. I promise.

This. I know it's a type of CIO, so it isn't for everyone, but this is just one of those things they have to figure out for themselves.

DD did this all hours all last week. We let her figure it out for herself one night. It took about 10 minutes two different times that night. She hasn't done it sense then.

  • This phase lasted ten long, painful days for me.

I alternated between going in and lying him back down a couple of times and rocking him to sleep. Once he appeared to be mostly over it, I let him fuss and cry for one nap and then he was back to his mostly magic napping self. Mostly!

B does this every.single.night for weeks now! I can't go in there or he loses his mind. Last night DH stood in his room for 1.5 hours just laying him back on his back over and over he fell asleep after what took forever. This will be our 6th attempt at CIO/sleep training and this is the first time he actually fell asleep. We will see how tonight goes. The only thing that had ever worked for us is just putting him back down.

  • I did some Sleep Lady shuffling.  I sat in her room with her while she stood in the crib and cried and eventually she fell asleep (the first night she kept falling asleep while standing and then she sat down and fell asleep while sitting and kept falling over... bad mommy laughed) on her own after about an hour.  The second night it took 30ish minutes and then the third night less time and now I take her in her room, nurse her, snuggle for a few minutes in the rocker and then put her in the crib awake but drowsy and she goes to sleep on her own.

I am picturing this in my head and it looks adorable! I would've laughed too. Poor babies I just don't understand why they fight it so much!
