Natural Birth and Asthma

I was wondering if anybody has asthma and had a natural birth. I am not taking anything for the asthma now and I only use my emergency inhaler when I need it. (I think I have used it once since I found I was pregnant). I really only need the inhaler if  I exercise, sick (with the cold), or if I was a crying a lot.

 If you have asthma, did you take an emergency inhaler when you went into labor? Did you have a lot of trouble breathing through contractions? Did you have to get a breathing treatment?

 

I was wondering if it is really possible to have a natural birth and have asthma.

I have asthma and had a natural birth - I didn't have any problems at all with my breathing. You should definitely bring your rescue inhaler with you in case it becomes necessary, though.

I also had a check-up with my doctor about a month before labor, and he said that my breathing was looking great. If possible, you might want to think about a check-up so you know in advance about any issues.

I have asthma, but it's really mild (I really only have to use it when I go up to my Aunt's peach orchard).  So I know I'm not exactly the best person to answer your question, but it wasn't a problem for me when I was in labor.  Bring your inhaler for sure though, even if you don't need it you will feel better having it.

I have not done it myself, but I believe one of my aunts has mild asthma kind of how you've described it and I don't think she had any issues. Sorry I can't be of more help, but check with your health care provider... I'm sure you can prepare for the birth experience you want.

I have mild to moderate asthma. I ended up with a c-section because LO got stuck, but I labored to 10 cm and pushed for 4 hrs without any issues. I was concerned like you, but I was fine.
