1st Trimester

would you be tired too

I work law enforcement and part of my job is working overtime. This is not a desk or patrol job, I am on my feet most of the day. With my first pregnancy I didn't get ordered to any overtime and I had a desk detail. This time around I have been ordered to work 16 hours quite a bit.  I might add that I am also still nursing my 14 month old mornings and nights so I have to pump when I get ordered to work an extra 8 hours.  Would you be really tired or are you tired working 16 hour days?

  • Would I be tired? I'd pass out. Sitting up feels like work right now. Is there any way you can get out of it? Do they know you are pregnant?

Anyone, pregnant or not, is going to be exhausted after 16 hour days.

  • Yes! I would be exhausted! Just being at home with my 2 year old makes me tired enough. Breastfeeding and pumping takes a lot out of you, plus 1st tri- I feel for you!

  • I have not told them I pregnant yet.  I kind of wanted to wait till my 1st OB appt. which is not until 9 weeks.  The only way I could get out of overtime would be with  a Dr.'s note.  I wasn't sure if asking my dr. for a note would be really whimpy of me this early in the game

  • Are you kidding me, when I WASN'T pregnant and working 12-16 hour days, 5 day a week it almost killed me. I could never do that right now in 1st tri. In fact, it's a big reason why I left my old job.

Good lord woman, not pregnant I was tired working normal 40 hour weeks. Pregnant, I'm asleep on my feet every day. 16 hour days?? You're amazing for getting through that!

  • You are not a punk for wanting less hours. I can't imagine being on my feet for that long pregnant or not. I hope you are able to get this changed ASAP.

  • No, a doctors note does not make you a wimp at all.

  • I work 12.5 hour night shifts and I am exhausted! Sometimes I do get mandated to stay for 16 hours, but luckily that doesn't happen too often. I am honestly miserable most nights by about halfway through my shift. Anyways, I feel for you because I know what it is like to have a physically demanding job with rough hours. Good luck to us both ........

  • Right now eating makes me tired.  I'm a student and I'm off in the summer, and I have no idea how you ladies do it.  I give you so much credit.  I need a nap after just reading what you're doing.  You pretty much sound like Super Woman to me right now.

  • I get tired after 6 hours of a desk job. Growing a human is exhausting.
