Napping in the evening??

My little guy is 9 weeks tomorrow and is not STTN yet.  His last feeding was at 5:30 and the next one at 8:30, then he'll go down for the night.  Should I let him nap between these feedings?  Or have him stay up so he's extra sleepy for bedtime?  Suggestions?

Re: Napping in the evening??

  • You're probably not going to get many replies here since most of these women are newly pregnant.

My advice from DS is to let them sleep when he is tired.  If he is tired now let him sleep now.  He may sleep through his 8:30 feeding and that's okay.   If you try to keep him up he will get crabby and cranky and won't be easy to put down at night (meaning he won't be extra sleepy at bed time).  My son is 9 months old and isn't STTN.  It's not uncommon for babies to wake during the night for many months.  Just as soon as you think it's good something will throw that off- sickness, growth spurt, teething, etc.

But, I think you could definitely try to keep him up and see how he does. 9 weeks is still early, so if he can't make it until 8:30, just let him  nap between those feedings and then try again in a few weeks!

  • I'm guessing this was meant for another board Wink but 9 weeks is still relatively early for STTN. And by STTN I don't mean a 12 hour stretch or anything. Maybe 6 if you're super lucky. I would let him nap when he wants to nap. It's too early to really take too much control yet. GL to you!

Hehe...this sounds like my evening, but that's only because I'm pregnant and tired....it's funny how being pregnant gives you the sme evening schedule as a 9 week old ;)
