If you had GD

what were some things you'd eat for dinner/appetizers?

SIL is going to be at DD's party and I want to make sure she has stuff to eat.

When I ask she just says salad... I don't want her to JUST eat that and I know she's saying that to make it easier on me.

Re: If you had GD

  • I ate a lot of chicken. I made buffalo chicken dip and would eat it on tortillas. It is tough because I had to watch carbs as well. I snacked on cheese ad pepperoni. It is really nice of you to look out for SIL. Hope dd's party goes well.

As long as the chicken is not breaded, and skinless, does it matter how it's prepared?  Can I just plop it in the oven with some seasoning?  Does it have to be plain? What about salad dressing?

  • For apps, make sure you have a veggie tray.   I could eat as many veggies as I wanted, except corn and peas.

The main thing is have proteins.  You have to watch carbs big time.

  • I don't think a little bit of breading will hurt depending on how her glucose levels are at this point.  My dietitian told me I couldn't have more than 15 grams of carbs per meal. Maybe marinade it in Itailian salad dressing and grill or bake it?  Itailian dressing is low in sugar.  Do you think you could give her a call and ask her if there is something that has been working well for her?

  • Have you been keeping a food log with your after meal/snack blood sugar readings? That helped me figure out very quickly what I reacted to and what I didn't.

Yeah, best move is to pair a protein with carbs. It slows down the absorption. And low carb tortillas actually aren't too bad.

  • I had it with the babies.  Protein, protein, protein....no carbs.

  • Lots of meat, cheese, veggies and even some fruit. Berries are pretty low carb in moderation, as is melon. I used to marinade and grill meat a lot and it wasn't enough to make my sugar spike. BBQ sauce can have a lot of sugar though. I also had luck with Dreamfields pasta. It's a low glycemic index pasta.

    15 g per meal?  Oh that sucks!!!  I could have 15 g for snacks, 30 g for breakfast, and 45 g for lunch/dinner.  I don't think I could have lived on 15 g per meal!!!

This reminder makes me not want to get pregnant again...
