Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Suddenly Fussy At 1

Son is a few weeks from turning 1.  He JUST started sleeping through the night about two weeks ago, so that was awesome, but now about 5 days ago he's just started whining and/or crying ALL DAY LONG.  He can maybe entertain himself sporadically for five minutes, otherwise he is just mad.  Mad if I hold him, mad if I don't, mad if I pick him up, put him down, feed him, change him, play with him, ignore him.  Everything makes him mad!  I think he could be teething a little but but at this point it's been almost a week?  And nothing is wrong with him as far as his health goes (it's not an ear thing).  Any suggestions or at least anyone hiding out in the same mom bunker as I...?

  • Try getting him out of the house, go for a walk or to a park, let him interact with things outside. My daughter gets really fussy when she feels cooped up. Also, try giving him frozen banana quarters, or frozen peas with a meal and see if that helps, it could be teething, Emery is very very fussy right now (and has been for about 2 weeks) because she has four teeth that are coming/ settling in.

Same here, although I know that a main part of it is teething here, since he has had 2 break the surface in the past few days, and I expect more to come since he only has one little tooth plus those two sprouting up. I also wanted to mention the wonder weeks, have you heard of it? It seems to be bang on each time I notice a fussy stage. It basically just attributes large mental leaps for baby with large fussy phases prior to the leap. This can be associated with any major development, like learning to crawl, walk, starting to understand the world more or in a different way. There is a leap around 55 weeks old, but the fussiness can start around 50-52 weeks and the chart I have seen <clicky> says around week 53 is the "stormy period" (don't mind the weird couple and the giant boob in the picture lol). GL, hope whatever it passes quickly!

  • God help us mommies and babysitters that have to go through this. I have the same problem with my 10.5 month old boy. He literally gets bored within 5 minutes of doing anything. I practically wake up get ready and go out when I am home. Hope it gets better soon before the cold comes here in New York. Lets all pray for our sanity!!! LOL

  • You are not alone!!! DD will be 1 in Monday and she is so FUSSY!! It is not easy.

  • Yeah my daughter is the same way. So did my nephew around the same time. His mollars were coming in then. His mom is my identical twin and so far both babies have had the same teeth come in a the same time so I'm guessing it's teething that's upsetting her too because normally she is super easy going. He's 14 months now and as happy as can be so it will hopefully be short lived. Hang in there.
