C-sections

C-Section is scheduled!

So after my external version not working we decided to schedule the c section. It will be for August 1st. I'm so excited to meet my baby girl! I have a question though. Now that I have this date set I'm starting to think maybe I should just wait to go into labor on my own. What do u ladies think? Should I keep my section scheduled or should I wait till I go into labor on my own. I will be 40 weeks and 2 days on August 1st. I just feel like maybe I should at least feel something since I'm haveing a c section and won't be having that feeling of pushing baby out.

  • I had a c section after laboring and while the c was super easy, I hated the labor. I didn't have the option of just going straight to a c. Having experienced labor, it sucked and I definitely wouldn't have missed it.

    Why?

I'd talk to your OB and see what he/she recommends.  Personally, I wouldn't want to labor AND have a c/s.  I like the scheduled aspect of the c/s and knowing exactly when we can expect the baby to come.

I don't want to go through all of labor im just asking if I should wait till I go into labor on my own or just get the schedules c section.

  • I had to have a c-section with DD1 & it wasn't decided until after 49hrs of labor.

If you know you will end up having the c-section than why would you want to stress your body & go through pain that isn't necessary for your situation?

I understand whet you mean because I will never get to experience pushing & actually delivering my child in that way but I don't see a reason to labor...just because.

  • I'd do the scheduled c/s.  If you wait to go into labor on your own, depending on the size of your hospital, there's a chance that there won't be an anesthesiologist immediately available, or that they'll be really busy, and you could potentially have to labor for quite a while before the c/s begins.  Recovery is supposedly much easier for a scheduled c/s than a c/s following labor as well - DS was a scheduled c/s, and my recovery was extremely easy.  Most docs schedule c/s closer to the 39w mark to try to ensure mom won't go into labor beforehand; be thankful your OB is letting you go past your due date for the scheduled c/s.

  • I would also just do the c-section if there are reasons for you to need it. I labored for 48 hrs and pushed for 3 and then had a c-section. If you are wanting the feeling of what it is like to push that doesn't come until closer to the end.

You ladies are right. I wouldn't want to go into labor and then not be able to have relief when I needed it in case the anesthesiologist wasn't there. So I have a week to go and hopefully I won't go into labor before that. Thanks for all of ur feedback!

  • Definitely stick with the schedules c/s.  I only had an emer c/s, but everything I've read says it's a lot easier to recover from the c/s when youre body hasn't labored first.

I totally agree. Plus, I don't know about anyone else, but I definitely felt when the doctor was getting the baby out. It was weird and nerve wrecking!!
