What Does Your Child Call You?

I posted on my blog today about the many names that Artichoke and Zucchini (my foster children) call me.  Our names change constantly because I don't feel like the boys really feel like anything "fits".  Honestly, I think it is understandable since the whole foster situation can be so confusing to little ones.

This made we curious what names other LO's use (regardless of how they entered the family).  What does your LO call you and DH?  Has it changed over time?  What are unique names that you have heard LO's call their birth/adoptive/foster parents?

  • Our fD is a baby, but previous kids called me mommy Rachel and daddy Joey, or just mommy and daddy
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • Our two little ones (who have lived with us their entire lives) just use mommy/mama.

Our oldest mostly uses mommy/mom/mama at this point, but started off with Mommy Elise.  He came up with it on his own (we introduced ourselves as Miss Elise and Miss Andrea) and it was fine by us.

  • We've always referred to each other when talking for the animals as Mama and Papa, so it came naturally to refer to each other for the kids as Mama and Papa... But truthfully, with an infant, she doesn't say much besides Waaahhhh!  And our 2 yr old usually says Papa for DH and either Mama, Mommy or Mom...

  • My DS calls me Mommy and my wife Mama. DS calls his biodad Papa Arthur" though it usually comes out "Papa Artter." DD is deaf so she uses the sign for "mother" for both of us. For her birthmother she signs "belly mother" which is our version of "tummy mummy."
