Hits: cherries, big time. maple whole milk yogurt. water. CHEESE. this girl doesn't ever get enough cheese. No idea where she gets that from
misses: peaches! I couldn't believe it but she doesn't like them. It's literally the only food I've ever given her that she doesn't like. Weirdo.
comments: E is drinking from a cup all by herself! This is pretty exciting to me. Yes, a lot of the time the water ends up on the floor or her tray, but she has figured out how to put both hands on it, bring it to her mouth, and tilt it back to get water.
One scary thing she started doing is pushing herself back against the table. She could push her chair over! So we're picking up the family high chair (made by my great grandfather) and will give that a try. I really like having the three of us at the table, but I think it'll be fine.
Pedi suggested offering foods three times a day now, so I added a lunch, which we didn't really do before.
alicia - LBB also loves cheese and hates peaches. Weirdo here too. Does E like nectarines? Because LBB likes them.
And Nita, LBB only started getting into pizza these last few weeks. Before that he was not interested.
Hits: He could probably eat his weight in grapes. Which DH doesn't like since they come out just like they go in. He's also in a bean phase right now - loving black beans and baked beans. And his daycare says he loves sandwiches.
Misses: BBQ pork ribs. I'm not sure if this is teething related, but he had a really hard time with this last night. He kept getting really frustrated and crying.
Comments/Concerns/Anything you want to share: I think we may be entering the teething solid strike phase. Yesterday he didn't want most of his breakfast and he hardly ate his sandwich at lunch. There was crying over the pork rib until we took it off the bone. This morning he did okay, half a rice pancake and most of his mango.
Hits: Broccoli is back! It was her first whole piece of food, but she was on a strike there for a while. I kept serving it anyway, and last night she ate a ton. I'm glad because I love it and we buy it all the time. We also had tortellini last night that she liked.
Misses: A black bean burger patty at a barbeque that was so spicy she had tears. That'll teach me to give her something without taking a bite first.
Q/C/C: Sometimes she'll pick up something and I'm watching closely because I just KNOW she's going to gag on it. And then she doesn't. I'm continuing to be shocked by the size of things this girl can take down!
Has anyone been to a nice restaurant with LO? How did it go? My ILs are visiting next week and Monday is their anniversary. We want to take them somewhere nice, but they will insist on DD being with us. She's good in restaurants, just messy like usual. Should I just get a plastic place mat to bring to put over the table cloth? Other ideas?

We have been to a few fancy restaurants with my ILs and A and it went pretty well. The first time we called ahead (as in me making the reservation) and I told them about the baby, that it would be messy etc. - they were fabulous and said it was no problem and I said we would be ok with them preparing with placemats and whatnot. So they did. They had a high hair with the biggest tray I have ever seen, and the chair was adjustable in a way that you could push it all the way in - it was as if he was sitting on the table - and nearly all of his reach was covered by the tray. And they had a little carpet under the chair. Really cute, the carpet was red. They were just awesome, and A was pretty good that day as well.
The other times in other restaurants, they just knew '4 and a highchair' no problem either. I always say it is ok if they want to bring a place mat or take of the table cloth (obviously, they never do). I try to give A less food at once, which results in him not throwing as much.
Over all, they are usually pretty good. The only thing is that it always seems that older female waiters are horribly freaked out by BLW and they keep asking if they should bring some apple sauce or mashed potatoes. They are always stunned at the things A eats and how he is not dead, I think. One actually told us once she is certified in infant CPR. It is always funny. Especially with my ILs. FIL is so proud of A that anything which may seem like criticism to him might bring down a storm of displeasure on the person saying something. It is quite funny considering that he was terrified of BLW in the beginning. Now he is an avid fan.
Hits: French toast went over very well, as did bean quesadillas. Risotto continues to be a favorite, no matter what is in it.
Misses: She hasn't been into apples lately.
Comments/concerns/anything you want to share? DD has still been eating less than usual the last 2 weeks or so. She has been teething like crazy, so I'm assuming that is the reason. She's definitely still enjoying things like yogurt, oatmeal, and risotto that she doesn't really have to chew.
I am hesitant to post this as it may have been some crazy fluke but the heavens opened up and DS fed himself again last night (after a SIX week absence). His teeth have finally all broken through and I gave him his favorite dish (squash in tomato sauce). He seemed confused that he could now bite the squash apart but he was very happy.
Lets hope this means no more anti-solid foods until at least toddlerhood.

Haven't done kidney beans on their own yet, but he's done okay with them in soups/chilis. I'll have to keep them in mind.

We pretty much use the same behavior for all restaurants - nice and not so nice. I use the high chair cover - not so much for germs, but because it catches food if he drops it. I bring the disposable plastic placemats that stick to the table, so he can eat right off that. Otherwise he plays too much with the tablecloth.
LBB doesn't really throw or drop food on the ground, so that's not usually a concern, but the occasions he does we pick it up right away.
We've only gotten great reaction from servers, other diners, and even cooks. We usually get comments about how well behaved he is (um yeah - he's too busy eating to cause trouble!). And one of our favorite local restaurants the cooks hang out in the window to watch him eat. They adore him.

When I worked in a restaurant, the worst part about messy kids was having to clean the carpet, especially if it was foods that just stick to the carpet or had been stepped on and squished in because we had to crawl around on the floor, pick things up by hand, scrub the carpet, etc., and it took forever (other things like crumbs and chunks of dry foods could easily be picked up with the carpet sweeper and only took a minute to clean up).
It will probably be Italian. Should I stick to only olive oil and big things, like ravioli or tortellini? I don't want to make any more work for someone than I have to.
Thanks for the tips, Nita! I'll call the restaurant and let them know I have a messy eater and see if they do anything special.

That's usually what we do. Of course servers always come around to tell me not to worry about it.
I'm not sure if they're just being nice or if it's like when I worked at the Gap and we would make sure people didn't put their own clothes back from the dressing room. It wasn't really to be nice, but to not make more work for ourselves later when they did it incorrectly. I'm clearly over-thinking this, lol.
Comments/concerns/anything you want to share? It's so neat watching him show a preference for some foods over another. He'll be happily eating chunks of waffle, but then if I put any kind of berry on the tray too, he'll abandon the waffle and refuse to eat anything but berries. He'll actually pick up pieces of waffle and toss them over his shoulder on to the floor while he's searching for more berries on his tray. Super cute.
I love when they do the food battle. She'll pick up something in one hand and something else in the other, look back and forth, and toss one with this "be gone with you" gesture.

Ha! I know exactly what you're talking about and it's so funny.
I am checking in late and for the first time in a few weeks.
DD started daycare on Thursday. I circle everything on the weekly menu that she can have. They offer breakfast, lunch, and two snacks. I've been allowing them to give her things from all those choices, but now I'm wondering if it's too much food? At home she was getting only two meals/day. Now she's getting 3 plus a snack. I'm worried she will not be getting enough BM and too much food. I'm only pumping twice at work and getting about 8oz/day, but am sending 12oz. I am gong to blow through my freezer stash pretty quickly at this rate and will have to start supplementing. Anyway, I apologize if this has been asked a lot recently (I've been too busy to post much), but how many meals is your LO eating? Snacks?

LBB does 3 meals a day, and I think they've added an afternoon snack in there. But he hasn't cut down on his BM intake at all.
I also pump one less bottle a day than he takes at daycare. I've added a pumping session in on the way to work and on the weekends which covers the extra bottles.

Thanks for answering:) I am going to start pumping on the weekend, but don't think I'll have a chance to pump anymore in the morning. That is impressive that you pump on the way to work!
