1st Trimester

Pushed back 2 weeks :(

Hi there!  First time Momma here: went for my first appointment yesterday, my LMP was 5/20 which my Doctor said would put me at 9 weeks. BUT when we did our ultrasound my babe measured 4 cm which would make me 7 weeks :(Any one else run into this?

Re: Pushed back 2 weeks :(

  • Booooo! :( I did with DS. Based on date of last period, and the only possible day that I could have gotten pregnant in August of that year, my due date was May 8th. At the ultrasound, they said my new due date was May 23rd. I knew better, tried to fight it, and when I deemed them incompetent, fired them, got a second opinion, confirmed May 8th due date. DS was born May 7th and was perfect. We were only in the hospital for a day.

  • I wouldn't worry about it too much as of yet. When I went in to have blood done after numorous positive home tests they told me they thought my levels were low for the date of my LMP.

It turns out I was fine. My numbers doubled (almost tripled) in 48hrs. Looking back recently I discovered I was wrong about my date. Oops. lol

Also...try and remember that we all don't ovulate like clockwork/textbook. There's a lot of give room when it comes to ovulation and ultimately implantation times.

    Good luck!

  • The date will likely change each time you get in, I wouldn't worry about it. They do usually say that the first ultrasound is most accurate though so I'd stick with that date nomatter what they tell you in future appts.

  • This happened to me too and we suspected that I got pregnant much later than I thought.  Baby has been on track so far.

  • Boo! That is the worst! My initial due date calculating from my last period was February 28... but it got pushed to March 7th. I knew it would though because I was using a OPK and I ovulated around day 21-22. It still sucks though!

  • Totally normal. Based on how cycles work, you can't get pregnant on the first day of your last period. So this happens to everybody. Just because that's your due date doesn't mean you'll have your baby that day. You could go early, you could go late, you could pop right on time.

Same thing happened with me on my first sonogram. It's totally normal.

  • Yes - for DD#1, I was convinced my due date would be 9/29.  My doctor insisted it was closer to 10/10 - 10/13 - so almost 2 weeks later.

     DD#1 was born on 9/29.

  • When I went to the doctor for the official pregnancy test they told me my due date was 2/3/2013. Which put me at 10 weeks for my first ultrasound. They did the ultrasound on my abdomen and couldn't see anything so the nurse practitioner who did the ultrasound said I was closer to 6 weeks, which means I'm 8 weeks now. I have another ultrasound on Thursday for official dating. I'm so anxious to know. When I went for my first appointment they drew blood to determine my hormone levels and I haven't had a chance to go in and find out and they won't tell me over the phone, but I'll know what's going on on Thursday. I understand what you're going through is what I'm trying to say.

When they calculate due date off of LMP it isn't assuming that you got pregnant on the first day of your period.  It's assuming that you have a 28 day cycle and got ovulated on day 14.  No matter how they calculate your due date you are not pregnant the first two weeks of pregnancy- those are freebie weeks.

OP, LMP is really an educated guess.  Charting and knowing when you O'ed is the more accurate way to get a due date.  Were you charting at all?  When did you get your positive test?  The only thing that would concern me is if they are saying you are 7 weeks pregnant and you got your BFP 7 weeks ago.

  • Hi, first time mommy here too.  If it makes you feel better, a 7 week bub is only about half an inch, so if you're measuring 4 cm, that's a lot more than 7 weeks!
