Names too similar?

My daughters name is Magdalen, but we mostly just call her Magda. We're expecting a second little girl in October and the name we LOVE the most is Ada. Now I'm worried that Magda and Ada sound too similar, my husband thinks it's fine. 

Other names we like include Tilda (same problem) and Imogen, but Ada is definitely the favourite.

So are they too similar? Or should I just go with my gut and name her Ada?

First of all, I love all of the names you mentioned! To answer your question, I don't think Magda and Ada are too similar at all. When I say both of those, I don't even hear similar sounds in them. I really don't think you can go wrong with any of those!

LOVE Magdalen.  It was in the running for DD (and in the running for phantom #2).  I do think Ada and Magda are similar, but not super close.  I could see you getting a little tongue tied when you're yelling both names in a hurry though.  If you love the name and your gut tells you to go with Ada, you should do it.  You don't want to regret naming her something else. 

Side note: What made you choose Magdalen?  I love the name, but worry people will always bring up the biblical reference.  Do people do that with you?

I would just just Ada. They are similar but I like them.

No one has brought up the biblical reference yet and she's 2 1/2 now. The biggest issue we have is people calling her Magdalena instead of Magdalen. Oh and a lot of people seem to think her name is Megan instead. But otherwise no real issues with the name. We've never met another kid with her name, which is quite nice.  

It's a bit embarrassing but we chose the name because it was the name of my husbands college at Oxford. So basically she's named after a school, hopefully one she'll be clever enough to attend one day! We also chose it because it wasn't very popular and I wanted something unique, but classic all the same.

Love Magdalen! I don't think it's too similar to Ada at all. I think they sound very nice together!

 I don't think Magda and Ada or Tilda is too similar. They just end in the same letter (which we're totally going to have with DD#1 and #2 as well).

I love Imogen and it's probably my personal favorite of the names you mentioned, but since Ada is yours, I see no reason to change your choice.

I think they're pretty close but pronunciation is just different enough I think it could work. Maybe I'm just pronouncing them wrong though - to me Magda ends with the "a" sound going up, more like an "ah" sound. Ada is the opposite, I put more emphasis on the first "A" rather than the last.
