Just curious...how early did you get a BFP and what test did you use?
I sent my husband to the store tonight to get a first response ept test because I've heard those are the best for testing early (the box says 6 days before missed period...). Of course he came home with the wrong test! Wondering if I should just wait a few more days (tomorrow will be six days before missed period) or if I should take a test that deliberately says on the box "5 days before missed period...". Does anyone know - do these tests ever show positives earlier than advertised? And I know that it lists the percentages on the box of the likelihood of detecting pregnancy - I know it is low - I am (obviously!) just super anxious.
Thanks in advance!
Re: How Early...
Personally I would wait. If you're too early, you'll get a negative, then have to deal with the disappointment and waste of money!

The real lesson here is not to let your DH buy PG tests. ;-)
I tested with an FRER (pink) on Wednesday and Thursday and got BFNs... and then on Friday, like magic, it was a BFP... my period is due Weds. So I would wait until you are within the right window.
I have always 'got that feeling' the week before my expected periods.
I would just go out, buy a test, and my feelings were usually right, and I've always found out crazy early, like 3-4 weeks.
I'd say it's safe to test right before expecting your period especially if you are not feeling your typical PMS symptoms!

I used the cheapest tests I could get (pink dye) with all my kids. #1 BFN at 12dpo, 14dpo BFP
#2 not sure if i was 13/14 dpo BFP
#3 10 dpo BFP
I'm pretty sure I was 12 DPO, so 2 days before. I'm with Shay, if you aren't sure when you ovulated, I would wait. Even if your cycles are 'regular', the accuracy of the test will be affected by your typical luteal phase. If yours is only 10 days, you might not get a positive until the day your period is due or later. If you have a 14 day luteal phase you might get a positive 3-5 days before your missed period. Unless you're charting or have some sort of idea when you ovulated, I would wait a couple more days.

I got a + 1 day before my missed period, and I was shocked. I really thought I'd have to wait it out.
I recommend just getting a bunch of tests from the dollar store so you can pee to your hearts content. If you get a +, confirm with a digital or FRER. Then you don't waste a ton of money because you are anxious.
I got a positive with a FRER 6 days before my missed period. I spotted like 5 days after ovulating, so I implanted early.
Eta, with my 2nd pregnancy, I got a positive 2 days before my missed period, and a negative the day before.
I agree w this. I started taking dollar store tests around 8 dpo. I got a squinty line at 9, I think and got a faint bfp on a frer the next morning followed by a pos digital. I have a little poas problem....lol.
I'm confused because she asked about "first response ept" First Response = pink, EPT = blue. Am I missing something?
OP, if you don't mind spending the money instead of waiting, I've always heard First Response working the best. Otherwise, I'd wait just a couple more days.
I tested positive at 9dpo with a Wondfo test. The dollar store test lines were barely visible 4 days later.

This was our first month of trying. We didn't chart ovulation, but went on the average of 14 days after LMP. I bought these off amazon really cheap: https://www.amazon.com/Wondfo-Pregnancy-Test-Strips-25-count/dp/B0002YIQEQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342535657&sr=8-1&keywords=pregnancy+test
My period was due last Thursday. I got a neg test Sun (4 days before it was due) and a faint positive last Tues (2 days before) that has gotten darker with each test after. I followed up w/ 2 First Response "expensive" tests to confirm as well. If you don't mind spending the money and won't be devastated by seeing a negative, go ahead and test. I got to find out 2 days earlier by buying these cheap tests (.33/each) and not caring about the cost. Since it was our first month, I wouldn't have been upset by a negative either. HTH.

i'd be really careful about the "6 days before your missed period" thing. I took the first response test you are talking about 4 days before my missed period because my breats were sore... BFN. the tests came in a 3 pack so on the day of my missed period... BFP! I was obviously pregnant when i took the first test, but the hormone levels were too low to detect at that point.
if you read the box, it says that it detects positive results as early as 6 days before your missed period only about 60% of the time. those odds aren't really something to write home about, unless you are farther along than you think! i know it sucks, but if you get a BFN, you may want to save up some tests to take in a few days!
i'd tell you not to bother until your period gets closer, but i couldn't wait either!
