1st Trimester

gassy, constipated & insatiable hunger...help :(

I'm only about 8weeks along but it seems like no matter how often I eat I feel hungry soon after again.

To make things worse I'm constipated and feel bloated/gassy. I feel miserable and I'm not sure what I can take for relief if anything at all :(. Anyone else with this problem?

  • Yup, sounds like pregnancy. Have healthy snacks around at all times, and Tums. Enjoy the ride.

  • Sounds about right....As PP said, have healthy snacks handy and nibble when you need to.  As for the constipation, increase your fibre and water intake (you know the drill).  I was super gassy around 8 weeks but it's decreased now, thankfully.

  • Yes, I'm starving all the time. I go from fine to OMG, need to eat, have the shakes and my stomach is growling in about 30 seconds. I carry snacks around with me if I'm not home - even a few triscuits or a small handful of dry cereal helps.

  • Yes...and it doesn't help when DH says "how can you be hungry, you just ate two hours ago!". It doesn't matter what or how much I ate, I am starving several hours later. Drink lots of water for the bloated feeling, it helps a lot.
  • Thanks everyone for the advice...I've been drinking as much water as I can stand and it still doesn't seem to be helping it just goes right through me. I'm gonna try to eat several smaller meals throughout the day instead of 2/3 bigger meals (which makes the feeling worse). Is it safe though to use otc gas relief products or Benefiber occasionally?
  • My doctor says I can take colace or Metamucil for constipation. I've been buying lots of high fiber cereals and granola bars, though, and it seems to help. As for gas, products with simethicone are okay, like mylicon, mylanta gas, or maalox anti-gas. Can't wait for this part to be over--I'm right there with you!
  • No help here, just a giant me too. Erghhhh.

This.  I've been eating smaller meals/snacking throughout the whole day which is better for you.  Congrats!

  • Try mineral water for the bloating. Its about the only thing that has helped me.

  • I'm right there with you!! I eat and then it's like, if I don't eat in the next 2 hours, I'm so nauseous and sick.  I have found that I eat alot of little snacks all the time to keep that feeling away.

As for the constipation, it may be your prenatal vitamins. I asked my doctor about it and he said that can happen sometimes. Eat high in fiber foods and drink lots of water. Who cares if you have to pee all the time right?!?! lol
