OB question/advice needed

I had my first OB appointment last Thursday- baby measured about 5weeks & had blood work done. OB called me this morning, asking if I can come in TODAY for more blood work. Should I be panicking? They didn't seem too concerned when I arrived and I didn't even see the doctor, just the blood lady. They told me they are looking for my hormones to double and they should know the results tomorrow.  This is my first pregnancy, so I don't know what to expect.  I can't help but feel nervous.

It's OK to be nervous, but don't panic before you know anything. I had to have stress tests twice a week for the last 8 weeks of my first pregnancy...but it was just in case. Don't get too worked up before anyone tells you anything.

It is very standard to have repeat HCG bloodwork done.  This ensures that the pregnancy is progressing at a normal rate (they look for the level to double in about 48 hours).

it's most likely a hcg test, they usually do at least two sets of numbers sometimes more, the number should double every 24-48 hrs. thats all they are checking for. some docs dont do this at all and some do. i had a previous m/c and my doc didn't even do it this time and my first appt isnt until 10wks. try not to be nervous and good luck

Hi!! Like a PP said, they are probably checking your HCG levels again just to make sure they're doubling since you're so early! Try not to panic :0) You can always call in the a.m. to ask what exactly they wanted to do more blood work for and if you're results came back in yet....that'll put your mind at ease Good luck!

Thanks everyone! Doctor called and blood test showed exactly what they wanted, and now they think we should be able to see something on a sono Phew.. I am normally so laid back about everything.. embarassing! lol
