Done having the name discussion w/DH...

Seriously. Every time I mention a name to him, whether it's one that I really like, or one that I think he might like he always says no, or we have time to think about that. Well when would you like to figure that out honey?? When the social security ppl are in the hospital waiting on us to spit some name out so we can get a birth cert????

He has NO suggestions. NONE. I have a girl name that I'm dying to use, but he's not on board with it and I don't have any good ideas for a boy name. If this baby gets here and we have no names picked out for either sex...we're going to play a game called "I Win", where whatever I decide goes because I just spent 40 weeks cooking this little one. Grrrrr!

Re: Done having the name discussion w/DH...

  • LOL.  My DH is the same way except he does have suggestions which are horrible.  He immediately hates every name I suggest and we won't discuss it for weeks and then I'll bring up a new name and he'll be like, "oh I thought we were going with (insert name I suggested that he previously hated)" I've learned he just needs to have a name grow on him. :)

  • i understand completly. my husband is throwing out ideas but i hate them - they are so old and not what i want ( charlie and thomas) i want something a little more edgy (declean, lane) i have spent hours online and in barnes and knoble looking and nothing is sticking so far. i had him agreed to my favorite girl name but when we found out it was a boy we were lost. i hope it gets better for you. i never thought it would be so hard.

What makes it doubly hard is that we're team green. Last time we were as we'll but I had a really strong feeling DS was a boy. So we had one boy name and 10 girl names. This time I'm lost on a boy name. DH is so frustrating!

  • My DH is the same - but I hounded him before we did our sex determination scan because I wanted to know what we would name LO.  I compromised with him with letting him choose the first name (one that I could tolerate) and I chose the MN (one that he could tolerate).  Once in a while he tries again but I told him I'm not budging. Period. LOL!  I think that if you can't come up with something together - then you get first dibs because like you said - you are the incubator! If he gets upset he can take solace in the baby has his last name! LOL!

  • Lol. We're having the same problem for boy names. We've had a girl name picked out for a long time, but we can't agree on a boy name. He has given me one suggestion, but I don't really like the middle name. I too am to the point where if we can't agree by the time this one is born (if it is a boy) I will play the "I win" game too. Hope you able to agree on names soon!!!

  • Heh. I've been there.  It's funny though b/c my H and I are both engineers, both uber-planners, both pretty Type A, and not only were we Team Green with our son, but we barely talked about names (b/c we'd just argue), and I was so relaxed about not having a name picked out.  It was the weeeeeirdest thing for me, but I truly just thought - I don't know any adults who are unnamed, so surely we'll figure it out.  We finally agreed on something (and only sort of) when I was around 38 weeks pregnant.  At the hospital, after we knew he was a boy, my doula asked what his name was and my H told her and even then, I was like, "wait, what?!" b/c it was still so fresh and new and I wasn't 100%.  But now I love his name and it's his and I can't believe we didn't agree to it the day we got our BFP.  Naming a human is haaaard, but people do it again and again and again every day.  Sooo...the biggest "easier said than done advice ever..." try not to stress about it too much ;)

  • We're not discussing names until we find out the sex.  And last time we were undecided until 3 weeks before.  I'm ok with waiting to pick the right name.  But I won't go to the hospital undecided.

My DH married me knowing the name of our first child was not up for debate. I decided years ago what I wanted & told him he could just deal with it... and pick out the middle name. We are also Team Green so he picked a girl MN (not my favorite but I did agree to let him choose) and a boy MN (absolutely love this one!). As it is, if we have a girl, I'll be using the first name & he's said he'll just call her by her MN anyway

  • I sure hope this baby is a girl because we can't think of any boy names we want! It's not even that we argue about it. We just can't think of one. Which is really weird because for yearsssssss we have jokingly called our baby "jeremy"  even though I wasn't pregnant. Now we don't want it.

We have about 5 girls first names picked (6 if you count mya which hubby likes but it's not my fav)

Once we know the sex we will work on a list. No matter what we won't name baby until we meet him/her. That's how all of my siblings and myself were named as well as DH. It's what my family has done with every pet too. We like to observe first and chose a name that suits :)

  • You asked if people are at the hospital to take down the name officially-- for us, there was an admin person who filled out the birth certificate information. We were mailed the birth certif and SS card later.

    I agree!

disagree! I have a very good friend whose wife announced to him that the name was either going to be X for a girl or Y for a boy. They are having serious marital problems, and I don't think that helped him feel like she valued his opinion much at all.

  • We've given up at this point too.  We don't know the sex yet and it's pointless to argue over two names.  I'll wait until when we only have to argue over one.
