scheduled c-section vs VBAC - what did you do and were you happy with your decision?

My first pregnancy was a c-section because my baby was breech and I have opted with my second pregnancy to schedule a c-section rather than try for a VBAC. I am now wondering if this decision is rash (I just couldn't face the possibility of failing at a VBAC and then having to do a c-section anyway) as I think about the possible complications from surgery and the long recovery time.

I was curious to hear how moms who had scheduled c-sections or went for VBAC (successful or not) felt about their choice and whether they were happy or regretted their decision.

I have no advice other than I did have a c-section and will likely opt for one with any future pregnancies. My hospital is pretty strict about not doing VBAC's. Have you checked out the VBAC board for support? Whatever you decide to do, I'm sure it will be the right decision and try not to stress it too much!

  • I had a fantastic VBAC and could not be happier with my decision.  For me, I really wanted to avoid the additional recovery time with a cs and hated the cs experience.  I had a beautiful water birth this time around and am so glad I did it that way.  The whole experience was just so much easier to handle.  Good luck!
  • I had hoped for a vbac.  I had a c/s with ds b/c he was breech.  I scheduled my c/s for two wks past my due date, hoping to give myself plenty of time to go into labor...which never happened.  And, sounds like it was a Godsent, b/c my uterine wall was very thin and may not have survived the labor.  My second c/s was better in some ways and more painful in others.... It has been ok though.  I am so grateful I didn't go into labor, given what I know now!  However, I would still say to give it a whirl and see how it all turns out.  The chance of scar separation is very low, really.

Scheduled c-section and I was sooooo happy with it. It went so much smoother than my first and I wasn't as scared as I was with my first c-section.

  • I contemplated going for a VBAC up until I was 32 weeks pregnant. Ultimately I decided to go with a RCS and it was the best decision I made, I would have never been able to birth my DS due to his size not to mention he was floating high and not engaged at all.
