Bump Accident

Yesterday as i was doing some shopping and browsing, a couple of kids were running from each other and one just happened to not be looking when he ran right into my belly. I have no idea why he was running around in the store in the first place but he was a husky 12 or 13 year old and the impact knocked the wind out of me. I haven't really had much fetal movement this pregnancy just a few flutters here and there and I haven't had any movement since my run in at the store. I guess I'm just worried if something could have happened to my LO or if I'm just being overly paranoid as usual. Should I go into the doctor today? Any input is greatly appreciated.

  • I would've smacked the sh*t out of that kid. Not really, but it sure sounds good. Did you at least have some choice words for him? "I'm pregnant, dumb@ss!" An older kid like that should know better. Sorry, I'm feisty today. Anyway...

I wouldn't worry too much. Your baby has a lot of cushioning in there. If you're really concerned, call your dr. and see if he or she would like you to come in.

  • I'm feisty everyday with this pregnancy and my choice of words for that kid left him wanting to cry. My mom keeps reassuring me that the baby has a lot of cushioning from the amniotic fluid to all my muscles but it's still a little scary. And my doctor is off in the carribean for another two weeks and her replacement doctor will not answer my calls. The nurse told me that I shouldn't come in for something "so insignificant" those were her exact words. This is my baby we are talking about. Let's just say she got a taste of my "choice words" as well.

  • Like Mina said baby has lots of cushioning in there and is pretty well protected.  I fell down 5-6 stairs when pregnant with DS, I fell hard enough to bruise a bone (the step right before breaking) in my ankle, but he was totally fine.

  • As PP said, baby's well cushioned, you should be fine. I slipped on a patch of ice and landed HARD while 6 months pregnant with DS and he was fine.

If you're truly concerned, go and see your doctor. Nothing any of us say on here will give you the peace of mind he/she will.

  • If you're worried, call your doc. I think the worst that will happen is that you'll have to wait in a waiting room to be squeezed in and get some peace of mind via doppler.

Otherwise, my mom fell on her stomach at 6 months pregnant and all was good with the baby. She was pretty banged up though...

  • I was in a very similar situation a few weeks ago! I was at Kohls and a grown woman walked right into me (seemed to be intentional, but that is a whole different story!). I was pretty nervous, but it all turned out to be fine. I agree with the other ladies -- if you're worried, give the doctor a call.

If you didn't sustain any serious injuries yourself then the baby will be fine.  I was kicked hard in the stomach when pregnant with my second baby (by a beast of a kid I used to nanny) and ithis is what I was told.  I even bruised and cramped up a bit from the impact, but the baby was totally fine.  Hope that helps a bit...

  • Where was that kid's parent?  Running at speed & not paying attention to direction in the MIDDLE of the store is sooo not acceptable for a middle school aged child.  Bad enough when they run through the hallways at school to get to the lunch line.  At least there are only other students and poles they'll smack into due to their own poor choices.
