My DS was in the hospital for five long days recently. He had to sleep at night in an oxygen tent so the nurses let him hold his own bottle and feed himself at bedtime and during his night feeding. He would go right to sleep and, because he was sick, I was very happy with this. Now that we are home, though, I cannot get him to go to sleep without a bottle. He has no problem napping without one, but bedtime and the night feeding are battles. I give him his bottle at bedtime and he usually falls asleep or is very close to sleep, but the minute I put him down, he screams. Tonight, I tried to just wait it out in the hopes that he would just cry a bit and then go to sleep, but after ten minutes, I had to give in and give him 2 extra ounces in a bottle in his crib. Any thoughts on how to break this new habit before it gets too far gone?
