So much harder now

I've decided that it is 100x harder for me to watch LO cry now than it was when he was a newborn. Now, he's SO expressive and he actually makes eye contact with me while crying as if to say "I know you can help me, so do it!"  When he was itty bitty he would just scream with his eyes closed to block out the world... not really asking for help.

CLEARLY, this stage is easier than the newborn stage :) but, what other things are a bit harder now for you than they were for you when LO was a newbie?

  • Changing diapers! Not only does he think it's a HOOT to roll all over the place while I'm trying to do it, but also, he has recently discovered his genitals and it's like magnetic attraction--the second the diaper comes off there go his hands. I told hubs I am sooo thankful he waited til after we started solids to start doing this. Pre-solids the entire diaper would be a mess, but he now has nice, neat little poos that stay where they are supposed to (and thus out of his reach!).

  • I actually think caring for DD is getting harder as she gets older. For us Emily was an easy newborn, she did get up every hour to hour and a half, but besides being tired everything else was easy

I agree changing diapers is harder....wiggle worm and getting her dressed

Bath time is harder, cuter but harder, she splashes like a whale and I am always in the splash zone

keeping her entertained is getting harder

She is much funnier now and learning so much everyday so it makes up for things getting harder

  • When accidentally hurt or scare him-- I feel like he KNOWS it was my fault and will totally remember the incident for hours if not days! lol Logic does not help me here, clearly. I feel terribly guilty every time

  • I know what you mean! It breaks my heart when she has giant tears welling up and she stares at me like "mommy, help me!!"

Putting her to sleep has gotten harder. When I was on maternity leave it was ok to let her sleep whenever and wherever, I'd just curl up and sleep with her. Now we're trying CIO and it freaking sucks!

  • Breastfeeding. Not the act itself but he cut a tooth the other day so when he bites, it hurts. And he's such a distracted eater. Every little thing will distract him and he pulls away, then it's a fight to get him to re-latch. A feeding used to be 10-15 minutes, now it 20+.

I agree! I was exhausted, but all she did was eat, sleep, and poop (and look adorable).  I could sit with her for hours on the couch, watch terrible TV, and stare at her!

This age is much more fun, but more mentally challenging. I stress over her sleep habits, whether I'm entertaining and engaging her enough, whether she'll hate me forever because I'm making her do something she doesn't want to do (rational, duh).

And, let's face it, I'm still exhausted :)
