I POAS today. I didn't think that I was PG, and sure enough I wasn't. I just wanted to make sure so I wouldn't feel guilty when I drank my wine and coffee. It made me think, though, if you got PG while BF and didn't have your AF, how did you know that you should POAS? Sore nips? That was really my only symptom when I got pregnant with C.
ETA: I was secretly glad about the negative, although we are kinda sorta trying. I don't want any of my attention taken off C. I want to give him my 100% for as long as I can.
Re: How'd you know you were PG if still no AF?
One of my secret fears is that I'm pregnant. I get that flash of anxiety all the time since I haven't gotten AF back yet and I didn't even have the sore nipples when I was pregnant.
But I would think I'd have a drop in supply if I was pregnant, and that hasn't happened. And we do always use protection.
I'm one of the "lucky" ones to get AF 3 months after having my baby. One of my good friends is (or was-she said she needs a break, lol) of the quiverfull mindset- and she noticed she was pregnant when her supply dipped. She also said that her nipples would be sore. She had morning sickness with her first 2, but with her 3rd didn't find out until 11 weeks- and that was because she suddenly had an aversion to coffee (something she only experiences during pregnancy).
I also have a friend that has PCOS and didn't know she was pregnant until 5 months. I wish I could remember how she found out, but she had been doing weight watchers and was losing weight those first 5 months, and I'm thinking she maybe found out when her weight plateaued. I think she went to see a nutritionist or something at that point, and found out she was pregnant in their routine tests.
I just realized I didn't answer your question.
So the girl who got pregnant twice was BFing and she noticed her supply really drop when she got pregnant.
Ok, so i wasn't bfing when I got pregnant, but I did get pregnant before I had a period. So, naturally, I cannot tell you about supply dips or whatnot, but this is what it was for like for me:
I had hot flashes, severe ones. Severe nipples. They also changed color - more to a paler skin color, if that makes sense. I had light cramps (and also light spotting, which I took to be a light period, being happy it wasn't the blood bath I had feared. Yeah. Stupid me!).
I also just felt overall dead tired. Now, all of that could have just been the fact that I had an 8 week old baby - but at some point I got constipation and heartburn...and I never ever have either normally. Sure enough, I POAS and boom. When I got to the doctor I was 8 weeks along.
I don't think you have to stop bfing when you get pregnant. From what I hear the milk will change consistency, sometimes even taste and your supply may drop, causing baby to wean. As for giving you contractions....wouldn't that be nipple stimulation in 3rd trimester? As in producing oxytocin and that would cause the contractions? I may be wrong though.
Ditto this.
You can still nurse, but you'll might have to work to keep your supply during the 1st trimester. My friend I mentioned earlier, weaned both of her daughters at the beginning of her 3rd trimester (belly too big/wiggly baby). She said 1st tri was tough since she had the pukes, but 2nd trimester was better supply wise. She said her nipples were also really tender during 1st trimester nursing.
I POAS today, too, despite the fact that I've been on either the mini-pill or extended cycle BCP since DS was 6 weeks old. I'm completely paranoid about a second baby because it would not be the best thing for our family right now.
I decided to test because when I was pregnant, the only symptoms I really had were restless legs, heartburn, and insanely bizarre (for me) dreams. I've had all three of those in the past two months and I just couldn't shake the fear, even though I was 99.9% positive that it was all in my head. Sure enough, the test was negative.
I have totally done this.
Aaagh! Every time I read a post like this, I get all paranoid that I have all the symptoms mentioned.
::Runs off to go POAS::
I got pregnant with no AF while BFing. I was taking OPKs so I had a pretty good clue but I noticed that my supply dipped around O and I also had tons of EWCM. Not like I had had since Olivia was born, this was different. That's what prompted me to take the OPK and 10 days later I POAS and it was positive.
My supply did go down and I am having to supplement big time. I still nurse twice a day and pump 1-2 times at work but I am giving at least 3 formula bottles. I am going to start working harder at my supply because I really want to be able to nurse at least some for the next 3 months.
