What's the difference between undershirts/onesies/t-shirts/bodysuits/vests

I'm a FTM that doesn't really get the difference between undershirts, onesies, and bodysuits mainly. Are these the same thing-what's the difference? And how many 0-3 MONTH would you have for onesies vs. t-shirts, undershirts, vests...?

  • I think some people call onsies undershirts. Some people call tshirts undershirts. I dunno.I have 14 0-3 onsies and 5 tshirts. No vests.

  • I usually put a plain white onsie underneath a sleeper in the cooler months - but not in the summer. I only have one set of 0-3 month onsies (the plain white ones) b/c I don't anticipate needing them. Others may have different uses for them.

T-shirts are a pain on the really little ones because they always ride up. DS didn't start wearing t-shirts until he was 9-10 months old.

  • Body suits/onsies and undershirts I would say the same thing- a shirt short or long sleeved with snaps

vests a vest - worn as a vest

t - shirt doesnt have snaps in crotch

This. But, I call onesies the Gerber ones (that everyone hates because they're super thin but I used them all winter long as a double layer), and bodysuits something that could be worn as part of an outfit.

For my winter baby, we had 2 packs of Gerber onesies in each size, so we still have those.  For newborns, a lot of people prefer the side-snap t-shirts so they don't rub the umbilical cord, and you don't have to pull them over the head.

  • We used white onesies (bodysuits with the snaps at the crotch) under separates (where he'd wear a shirt and pants....but I personally didn't do too many of these until he was walking for this reason), so that his belly wouldn't show, especially when it got cooler out.  We stopped that once he was walking full time and wasn't crawling on the ground anymore.  We never used t-shirts under anything but flannel shirts or zipper/button up sweaters.
