Can I just "brag" for a moment.... (I feel hope....)

So there was at some time talk that my son may not even be verbal---or at least not have many words at all.  He was VERY behind and no matter what they were doing, he wasn't "getting" many words.  They did dx him with verbal apraxia and some sensory issues---and that is all for now---and he got in to a great program with the school system after EI was over at the age of 3.  He's been making some progress--little by little--VERY very slowly.....and then this past end of June all of a sudden he seemed to make a lot more. 

And now on his 4th birthday he has said "thank you" very very clearly--in fact, it is "thank you mommy" --- (yes, THREE words in a ROW!) and even says small phrases like "I'll miss you".  I can't even believe my ears.  I never thought this day would come.  When we had his b-day party last weekend and he could actually thank people for his gifts---I was in amazement. 

BUT even better...when he was able to tell someone his name and they somewhat understood him for the first time....I nearly cried.

There is hope. 

And I know only moms like 'us' get these "brags".

Your story brought tears to me eyes! So happy for your son to be making so much progress and it gives me hope for my daughter as well!

That is awesome!! Im waiting on that DX for my daughter who has Down syndrome too. She will be 3 in Aug and only says Mama. I know you had to be so proud!!

DS1 is actually in class with two other DS children---one of which he is very great pals with.  I will say that 1 yr ago when he was evaluated, it took everything for me to come up with about 12 words he could "barely" say---- pretty much it was always 'mama' and 'dada' and I think a couple others --and now he actually can put a couple together, which is just insane to me.  He's not near his age obviously but I don't care.  He's also in mainstream daycare which helps---it's tough at many times, but I think it does force him to practice words too--which is great for apraxia.   Practice practice practice.   I found for him that although he did ok with flashcards--they annoyed him--he did better with just practicing "everyday" words--so I would try and put those flashcard words in to his everyday life--if that makes sense.

Awww, you just made me all weepy.  Makes me remember when Chris called me 'mommy' for the first time.  Truly a special moment.  So happy for you - and him!

What and exciting day.  I can only imagine how that feels.  Can't wait for Connor to say these things.  Hugs mama.
