Preemies

Grunting

After 5 weeks in the NICU we finally brought our little guy home yesterday.  He grunted a bit in the NICU but now that he is home he grunts and squeaks the entire time he is awake.

Is this typical behavior for a preemie?  We did have our first pedi visit today and he did not mention that this was abnormal but I just thought I would check with the board to see if anyone else had this experience.

Thank you!

  • Congrats!  As far ask know its totally normal. Our room sounded like a jungle for the first several weeks because of all the noises.

  • Totally normal!  Crazy how much noise a little baby can make, right?  I think all the nicu beeps, swooshes, puffs, and shuffling drown out their sweet sounds.

Totally normal! Adalyn was like that a lot at first, and it slowly is getting replaced by cooing.  Be sure to videotape the grunting, since it will go away!

  • Definitely normal!  C grunted all the time.  Congratulations on getting to go home!
  • Normal.  DD was so loud all the time, especially when she sleeps.  She is now starting to coo more and sleep a little quieter, but the grunting is still there.

This! My baby sounds like a constipated goat. Makes sleeping difficult.
